Best of the Bees

Three home matches under Keith Andrews have delivered seven points, after the Bees kicked off Gameweek 6 with a Saturday lunchtime win over Manchester United.

Aaron Hickey (£4.0m) made his first Premier League start in almost two years following his battle with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Igor Thiago’s (£6.0m) first-half brace puts him on a goal total that only Erling Haaland (£14.4m) of Manchester City betters.

Thiago’s first goal came courtesy of a Jordan Henderson (£5.0m) assist; however, it was all about the forward who raced clear and shot powerfully towards the near post.

Another long ball made it 2-0. Thiago chested it onto Kevin Schade (£7.0m) and sprinted into the box, placing himself perfectly to convert a rebound once the German was denied.

Ruben Amorim's side were given a huge opportunity to equalise from the spot, after Bryan Mbeumo (£8.1m) was fouled on his return to west London.

While the penalty save annoyed many Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) owners, over 990,000 were delighted to receive a Caoimhín Kelleher (£4.5m) reward. He ended on eight points.

The Spotlight

The sole Brentford player to receive a defensive contribution (DefCon) prize - newly introduced for this season - was midfielder Yehor Yarmoliuk (£5.0m).

It’s the third time he’s done so, meaning six additional points. Moisés Caicedo (£5.7m) and Josh Cullen (£5.0m) are the only midfielders with more of these.

Yarmoliuk also assisted Mathias Jensen (£4.9m) deep into stoppage time to make it 3-1 - his first-ever FPL attacking return. He’s been named in all six Bees line-ups so far, completing five of them.

It’s given the 21-year-old time to have four shots and create four others. FPL managers could see him as one of the best names at this price point, alongside Anton Stach (£5.0m), Granit Xhaka (£5.0m) and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£5.0m).

Best of the Rest

Meanwhile, the most-bought and most-captained individual heading into Gameweek 6 was Haaland.

On a weekend of frustrating blanks for Fernandes, João Pedro (£7.8m), Mohamed Salah (£14.5m), Mohammed Kudus (£6.7m) and Nottingham Forest’s assets, the Norwegian’s late haul saved many blushes.

Two goals and an assist accumulated 16 points, meaning a huge score of 48 for his 716,000 Triple Captain activations.

Bargain defender Omar Alderete (£4.0m) delivered a goal, clean sheet and DefCon success in Gameweek 6, whilst Sean Longstaff (£4.9m) was instrumental in Leeds' 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Popular Arsenal defender Gabriel’s (£6.2m) dramatic late winner helped him to register 13 points.

In Demand

As of now, Haaland is again the week’s most-purchased player, followed by Marcos Senesi (£4.9m).

The centre-back has already risen in price four times, having grabbed two DefCon points in every match. Nobody else can boast this.

Just like Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi (£4.8m), Senesi has assisted twice and kept three clean sheets. They are FPL’s two leading point-scoring defenders.

Meanwhile, Salah is the most-sold asset this week, with many managers sacrificing the Liverpool midfielder to find the budget needed to secure Haaland.

Haaland is replacing João Pedro in many teams, with Chelsea registering back-to-back defeats and the Blues striker having just one attempt in the last three matches.

Captaincy

Owners have long been eyeing up Fernandes for this week’s armband, given that the Portuguese playmaker will be at home to Sunderland. But a combination of multiple missed penalties and the promoted side’s solidarity could force some alternative ideas.

It’s similar for Ollie Watkins (£8.7m). The forward hosts Burnley but only netted his first goal of the campaign in Gameweek 6.

That’s why, for many managers, Haaland may be the default captain choice. He leads the way for attempts (28), shots on target (13) and big chances (13), all by quite a distance. But hopefully for Brentford, he will be kept quiet on Sunday!
