Best of the Bees
Despite an 11-match goalless run, Dango Ouattara (£5.6m) was doing everything but scoring and a goal felt imminent.
Sure enough, two arrived on Sunday against Crystal Palace. After an early Eagles onslaught, the 24-year-old equalised when Yehor Yarmoliuk’s (£5.0m) cross was smartly deflected in.
Then, in the 88th minute, Ouattara made it 2-2 when nodding home a long Michael Kayode (£4.6m) throw that Sepp van den Berg (£4.4m) flicked on. A brace and maximum bonus meant the Burkina Faso international collected 15 points.
Spurred on by this, the Bees sensed there was enough time to find a winner, with Kevin Schade (£6.8m) and Igor Thiago (£7.3m) going close; the west Londoners had to make do with a draw.
Meanwhile, FPL owners of Yarmoliuk, Kristoffer Ajer (£4.4m) and Nathan Collins (£4.9m) were happy to receive defensive contribution (DefCon) points.
The Spotlight
A couple of the Bees' 14 chances fell to defender Lewis-Potter, near the edge of the box. One went close, but he couldn’t quite get enough curl on the shot.
The left-back has had a positive impact since returning to Keith Andrews’ team in Gameweek 30.
Over these eight Gameweeks, Lewis-Potter has racked up six close-range attempts, two Opta-defined big chances and a 2.25 expected goal involvement (xGI) that only Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly (£5.3m) can beat.
Best of the Rest
Joining Ouattara on 15 points is Ollie Watkins (£8.7m), who bagged a brace and assisted during Aston Villa’s win over Liverpool. The same game also saw Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) and Morgan Rogers (£7.3m) dish out some double-digit revenge on hundreds of thousands of recent sellers.
Enzo Fernández (£6.4m), Elliot Anderson (£5.6m), Enzo Le Fée (£4.8m), Will Osula (£5.5m) and penalty-taking Fulham defender Antonee Robinson (£4.9m) also delivered double-digit hauls.
In Demand
This FPL campaign has one round of matches to go, allowing managers to stray from the template and be completely short-term with their remaining free transfers.
That usually brings some exciting variety to final-day squads.
Some will play it safe in order to consolidate a good ranking, but others are chasing mini-league leaders and want to make an ambitious, yet smart-minded punt.
Jarrod Bowen (£7.7m), Morgan Gibbs-White (£7.5m) and Dominik Szoboszlai (£7.0m) are popular, for example.
Whatever you do, make sure all transfers, captaincies and starting XIs are locked in by 2.30pm BST on Sunday 24 May.
Captaincy
Another fascinating area, where Erling Haaland (£14.7m) and Bruno Fernandes (£10.4m) usually get many armbands.
Manchester United’s playmaker is chasing a Premier League record. He has already equalled the season-long assists of Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne (20), but can become the outright best if he sets up a strike against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Whereas the Norwegian forward will be part of some mass shoulder-shrugging guesswork, now that the league title is officially Arsenal’s. How strong will the City line-up be?
Similarly, romantic FPL managers may even want to captain Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£14.0m) on his emotional Anfield goodbye, although he only made a substitute appearance at Villa Park, having missed Gameweeks 35 and 36.
