Brentford have teamed up with Fantasy Football Scout to help bring you hints, tips and advice during the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season.
Scout will be using their expertise to provide info, advice and Gameweek tips which may prove useful in ensuring you sit on top of your mini-leagues.
Best of the Bees
It was a tough Sunday afternoon at Anfield but several Bees played well. For example, goalkeeper Mark Flekken (£4.5m) registered three points, due to his six stops returning a couple of save points.
Yoane Wissa (£6.0m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£7.0m) are the highest-scoring Bees over the opening two weeks. The attacking pair are on 13 and 10 points respectively and they could become popular purchases heading into Gameweek 3, ahead of a meeting with newly-promoted Southampton.
Mathias Jensen (£5.5m) might also have piqued the attention of FPL managers, as he was able to set up a big chance against Liverpool in Gameweek 2.
The Spotlight
Jensen’s corner soon led to a cross met by Nathan Collins (£4.5m). This close-range effort was one of the centre-back’s two attempts, following on from Gameweek 1’s assist in the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Collin’s two attempts on target are joint-top among defenders. In addition, only a couple of defenders have achieved more shots inside the penalty area than Collins’ three.
Combine this with five chances created throughout all of last season and suddenly the 23-year-old possesses the potential to register an FPL haul. Furthermore, Brentford had more 2023/24 shots from throw-ins (24) than any other team and just Liverpool registered a higher number from set-pieces (164).
The Ireland international’s 0.7% ownership will be interested to see that opponents Southampton are yet to score. As recent campaigns have seen, team-mates Ethan Pinnock (£4.5m) and Ben Mee (£4.5m) rank highly within their position for attacking underlying stats - maybe it’s now Collins’ turn.
Best of the Rest
A generally high-scoring FPL weekend brought hat-tricks for Erling Haaland (£15.1m) and Noni Madueke (£6.5m).
With more chips to use and seemingly fewer Double Gameweeks to use them in, 477,386 clever managers opted to play their Triple Captain card on the Manchester City forward. Activating it so early was brave and it paid off handsomely, delivering 51 points to such teams.
Other high-profile hauls came from Son Heung-min (£10.0m) and Cole Palmer (£10.5m) - the latter assisting all three Madueke goals, as well as lobbing over Wolves’ Jose Sa (£4.5m).
Meanwhile, it’s two clean sheets from two matches for both Arsenal and Liverpool.
In Demand
Emile Smith Rowe (£5.6m) set an early pace for most post-weekend purchases, but Madueke is likely to overtake by Saturday’s Gameweek 3 deadline. Many of these will be a simple switchover from Chelsea colleague Christopher Nkunku (£6.4m), who was limited to a cameo appearance.
Also gaining traction are Brighton duo Danny Welbeck (£5.6m) and João Pedro (£5.5m); both netted against Manchester United, and the former England forward has secured maximum bonus points on consecutive occasions.
Captaincy
Armband decisions aren’t straightforward this time because Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) travel to West Ham and Man United.
However, the Egyptian has a staggering record versus Erik ten Hag’s side, producing 10 goals and four assists in their last seven clashes. Likewise, Haaland has scored three goals in two Premier League matches away at West Ham.
Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) faces in-form Brighton and those with Palmer may be tempted into captaining him at home to Crystal Palace.
