Best of the Bees

Saturday was only the second time this season that Thomas Frank’s side haven’t struck first, but it was an impressive turnaround to win the game 4-3.

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.7m) was pivotal in that shift. In Gameweek 9, he highlighted why having so many routes to attacking returns makes him a near-essential FPL asset.

Keane Lewis-Potter (£5.0m), Christian Nørgaard (£4.8m) and Mikkel Damsgaard (£5.0m) had big chances to extend the lead but, inevitably, it was Mbeumo in the sixth minute of stoppage time that sealed the win.

Was it meant to be a cross? Well, it was certainly a goal! The last-minute winner ensured the 25-year-old ended as Gameweek 9’s top FPL scorer with 15 points.

With assists for Lewis-Potter, Yoane Wissa (£5.9m), Mads Roerslev (£4.4m) and Vitaly Janelt (£4.9m) there were plenty of attacking points for Bees' assets on Saturday afternoon.

The Spotlight

No team had more big chances (seven), shots on target (nine) or Expected Goals (4.10) than Brentford in Gameweek 9. A lot of these came from newly-fit Wissa.

At a time when Ipswich were heavily pushing to go three up, the DR Congo international scored a much-needed goal just before half-time, assisted by Janelt.

Staying onside, his shot hit Arijanet Muric (£4.4m) and Harry Clarke (£4.0m) on the way in, initially awarded to the latter as an own goal. The Premier League have since credited this to Wissa - but it’s too late for FPL to upgrade his assist! This means he bagged ‘just’ 10 points.

Part of an exciting price point of cheap, good-value forwards, Wissa is a great differential alternative.

He continued his late form of 2023/24 by scoring three times in this campaign’s first three-and-a-half matches, until picking up an ankle injury in Gameweek 4. The quicker-than-anticipated recovery is a massive boost to the Bees, especially with a double-digit return in his first start back.

Best of the Rest

Chris Wood’s (£6.4m) brace at Leicester makes it seven goals from nine outings. He’s becoming difficult to overlook.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) has already achieved six double-digit scores. This is his second-best start to an FPL season.

Fellow premium names Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) and Cole Palmer (£11.0m) also got on the scoresheet too, with Manchester City and Crystal Palace being the only sides to keep a clean sheet.

In Demand

Joško Gvardiol (£6.2m), backed up his Gameweek 8 goal with a clean sheet in Gameweek 9. He is currently a popular Gameweek 10 transfer.

Not content with just being last week’s most-purchased player, Brentford’s Mbeumo is leading the way this time too.

Many managers are likely moving Liverpool’s Diogo Jota (£7.3m) now that he is confirmed to be out until after November’s international break.

Wolves’ Rayan Aït-Nouri (£4.6m) scored in Gameweek 9 and has a good run of fixtures through to the busy festive period. He is a popular target for FPL managers.

Captaincy

Erling Haaland’s (£15.4m) drought may be over, but his solitary goal versus Southampton disappointed many - especially managers who used their Triple Captain chip on him.

He travels to Bournemouth on Saturday, while Salah seeks another haul when hosting Brighton.

Wood could also be a maverick and differential armband contender. He’s at home to West Ham, hoping to score in a fourth consecutive match.
