Flemming Pedersen will be leaving his role as B Team Head Coach at Brentford. The Danish coach will be heading back to his home nation to take up a position as Technical Director at FC Nordsjælland, a club where he has a long history. Flemming is currently set to leave on 1 January 2017. Kevin O’Connor, currently Flemming’s assistant, will step up to a new permanent role as B Team Head Coach.

Flemming has been at Brentford for 16 months. He arrived in the summer of 2015 as Head of Football Philosophy and Player Development and then, at the start of this year, took over Head Coach of Brentford’s Development Squad. When Brentford launched its B Team this summer, Flemming was appointed as Head Coach and has helped develop the current B Team players over the past 10 months.

Former Club Captain Kevin O’Connor has been assistant to Flemming since the start of 2016. Kevin had previously assisted Lee Carsley, who had the job before Flemming, after ending his playing career in 2015. Kevin led the Under-21 group when Lee Carsley stepped up from Development Squad Head Coach to the same role at First Team level on an interim basis last autumn and will now take on the role permanently.

At the same time, we are excited about giving Kevin O’Connor the opportunity to step up in his coaching career. Kevin has grown a lot as a coach over the past 12 months, and we have no doubt that he is the right man to keep improving our B Team project when Flemming leaves."

Flemming started coaching in youth development in Denmark when he was 18 and worked his way to Head Coach at FC Helsingør, in the Danish third tier, before he turned 30. Flemming worked at FC Copenhagen and spent eight years at Nordsjælland, taking over as First Team Coach in 2011. He helped Nordsjælland win two Danish Cups, one national title and then reach the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League in 2012. Flemming then moved to German side 1. FSV Mainz 05 in 2014 before moving to Brentford.

Kevin has been with Brentford for more than two decades as scholar, player, captain and coach. He signed professional terms with Brentford in 1999 after progressing through the Club’s youth system and in the following 16 years made a total of 501 appearances for The Bees, 420 of them in the Football League, and scored 44 goals, 32 of them in the league. He is fourth on the Club’s all-time appearance list and in 2015 became the first person to be inducted in to the Brentford FC Hall of Fame while still at Griffin Park.

Kevin took a player/coach role in the summer of 2014 after helping The Bees win promotion to the Sky Bet Championship and played his last game later that year. His final touch of the ball in the professional game was the winning penalty in a League Cup shoot-out win against Dagenham and Redbridge. Last summer he was appointed Development Squad Assistant Head Coach and then took up the same role when the B Team was created earlier this year.
