Josh Dasilva has signed a new contract with Brentford until the end of the season, with a club option of an extra year.

Dasilva’s contract expired this summer, but the midfielder has remained at the club to complete his rehab after suffering a significant knee ligament injury in February 2024, and has now extended his stay in west London.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said: “I’ve been keen to get this done and had discussions with Phil Giles around it, stressing the importance of Josh to the group.

“He’s someone that I’ve involved a lot around the next chapter of where we’re going with the club and the steps we need to make.

“Josh is someone who really understands Brentford Football Club and he’s a really intelligent young man who cares about the club - I don’t think we should forget that.

“But, ultimately, we want to get him back on the grass because, if we get him back to the level he was at, he’s going to be a major asset for us.”

After 12 years at Arsenal’s Academy, Dasilva joined Brentford as a 19-year-old, signing a four-year contract in August 2018.

The 2019/20 campaign was a breakout season for the midfielder. He was an important cog in the Bees midfield, playing all but four games in the Championship, and contributed 10 goals towards the club’s run to the Championship play-off final, before defeat to Fulham at Wembley Stadium.

He was missing from the team for the best part of a year from March 2021 with a hip injury but, freshly recovered and with a full pre-season under his belt, Dasilva featured in 36 of Brentford’s 38 Premier League games in 2022/23.

Dasilva’s injury problems continued with a hamstring problem in his first game of 2023/24, which kept him out for four months, then, after just four further appearances back, he suffered an ACL rupture in training in February 2024.

The 27-year-old has been recovering at the club since then and will remain with the Bees for an eighth season.
