Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has provided an update on Reiss Nelson and Josh Dasilva ahead of the Bees’ Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday 27 December (3pm kick-off GMT).

On-loan forward Nelson has missed four matches due to injury but could feature against the Cherries at Gtech Community Stadium.

Reiss is training,” Andrews revealed.

“He’s come back in a good place physically and gone straight in. He trained with the group today [Tuesday], so he’s back in and around it.”

The Bees boss added: “It was a pretty demanding week for us, with three games in six days up and down the country, and we came through that really well as a group.

“The staff went to new levels to get the players in the best possible place – particularly at the end of that week.”

Dasilva (knee ligament) is a longer-term absentee, and Andrews is pleased with the midfielder’s progress.

“Josh is doing well,” he said. “The road for Josh has been long and hard, and he’s shown phenomenal character and resilience to get to this point.

“We’re still hopeful that we’ll see him out on the grass in a team environment sooner rather than later.

“He’s working tirelessly with the medics and performance team to come back in the best possible place.”

Fábio Carvalho and Antoni Milambo will both miss the rest of the campaign due to ACL injuries.

Frank Onyeka and Dango Ouattara are also unavailable due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and Burkina Faso, respectively.

Brentford had to work hard to earn a 2-0 win at Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, and Andrews is expecting another tough test from the Cherries on Saturday.

“They have a very defined way of playing,” he said.

“I like the way they play - it’s high-octane. You have to earn results against them, with the types of actions they have. They really test you if you’re not on your game.

“They’ve got some key individuals. They’re very difficult opponents and we’ll need to be absolutely ready.”
