Brentford B’s latest recruit Byron Wilson says he’s excited about the pathway that the B Team offers after he arrived in West London on a two-year contract with an option of an additional year.
The 17-year-old full back joined having departed Coventry City in the summer and he’s looking forward to an exciting new challenge in red and white.
“I’m over the moon,” said Byron. “It’s something that you dream of as a kid, to join a club which is in the Premier League so it’s a great feeling to be here. When I heard that Brentford was a potential opportunity it was something that I wanted to look into straight away.
“I know the B Team was quite under the radar at first and it wasn’t something I knew too much about. I did some research and I think it’s something that can be very beneficial to me in the future.”
Whilst looking around the facilities at Jersey Road, Byron’s eye was taken by the Robert Rowan First Team Debut Board, which recognises every player who has come through the B Team to make a debut in the First Team.
Byron continued: “We’ve got the board outside which shows the names of the lads that have come through and made their First Team debuts. It’s filling up fast so I hope I can put my name onto it! It shows the terrific pathway that we have here. It’s good how connected the B Team and the First Team is. It’s not two separate things and I see it as being very together.”
Byron joined the young Bees for their matches against Crewe Alexandre and Hearts recently and he has been able to integrate into the group in recent weeks, which is something he’s thoroughly enjoyed as he’s adapted to a new style of play.

He said: “I’ve enjoyed it a lot, you get a homely feeling here. From the first day it felt like I belonged with the lads and I’ve integrated really well. The style of play is something different and I think it plays to my strengths. I like to press high and be energetic. It’s a credit to the coaching and all the players here too.”
Discussing his time prior to arriving in the capital, Byron says he loved his time with Coventry as he came through the ranks to represent the Under-18 team.
“There are loads of happy memories looking back so far at my football adventure,” explained Byron. “It’s somewhere that I’ve now moved away from, and I don’t have anything bad to say about the club. I learned to express myself and trust myself, I learned to come out of my shell in a position such as a full back where you’re up and down the pitch and on the ball a lot. Being able to trust in yourself is so important.”
