FCM, as they are known, beat Brøndby IF on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the final earlier this month. FCM, where Brentford FC Owner Matthew Benham has the majority shareholding, took the lead early in the final and went on to win the penalty shoot-out 4-3 after being pegged back. They added the cup to two Danish Superliga titles they have won since 2014.

FCM has a close association with Brentford at all levels both on the football side and commercial side with a sharing of knowledge and regular dialogue between the respective members of each club. Brentford FC Co-Director of Football Rasmus Ankersen is Chairman of FCM, and our Chairman Cliff Crown and our Board Director Nity Raj are both on the Board of FCM. They won the title in 2015 and last year and finished second in the table this season which means they will once again enter the Europa League, having reached the last 32 in 2015/16.

Cliff Crown said: “We are delighted that our sister club FCM have won the DBU Cup at the fifth time of asking. Since Matthew acquired the club in July 2014, FCM have won the Superliga twice and finished second and third but had failed to reach the DBU Cup Final during that time. Nity, Rasmus and I were in Copenhagen to represent Matthew and to witness this historic moment. The pain of losing out in the Semi-Finals in the past two years was washed away by the victory.

“On behalf of everyone at Brentford we are delighted that FCM were able to win their first ever DBU Cup at the same time they were celebrating their 20th anniversary since formation. The club put on a quite superb party in the park before the game and took some 10,000 fans on the three-hour drive from Herning to the capital to support the team. We would like to congratulate everyone associated with FCM for this marvellous achievement.”
