Farid El Alagui said Brentford were happy with their npower League One Play-Off Semi-Final First Leg draw against Swindon Town.

The first match of the two legged tie ended 1-1 in Wiltshire.

The home side went ahead but Kevin O’Connor converted a stoppage time penalty to leave the match all square.

The tie – and a place in the League One Play-Off Final at Wembley on May 19 – will be decided at Griffin Park tomorrow, Monday May 6.

Farid praised the spirit in the camp and said Brentford would be more pleased with the draw than Swindon.

“It is hard to judge the tie,” said the striker, speaking to Bees Player after the match.

“We have the spirit to find a way to come back in any situation.

“The lads were unbelievable today.

“The first half was difficult, with the wind, but we stuck together and took our chance.

“We are happy with the draw.

“It is a better draw for us than for them.

“But this is the first half, they will give 100 per cent at Griffin Park and we have to give more.

“It is still hard for us to get through to Wembley.

“We have to do it.”

Farid said conditions were difficult and a strong wind made longer passing hard to judge.

With both teams pressing high up the pitch, the game was scrappy and there was little momentum.

“It is sometimes difficult for people to understand why it is hard when it is windy,” said the striker.

“It is hard to read the ball when it is up in the air, it is hard to judge a pass.

“Movement and decision making is harder.

“It is easy to say that you should keep the ball on the floor.

“There was lots of pressure on the ball from both teams, which makes it difficult to pass it short.

“We had to face what they threw at us and we did.”

Massimo Luongo put Swindon ahead with 20 minutes remaining but Brentford held firm, created chances and levelled at the end.

Farid praised Brentford’s response to falling behind and said the final result was the right one.

“I came on and they scored but our reaction was very good,” he said.

“We didn’t panic.

“The last 15 minutes we were on top and tried to come back.

“The penalty was fully deserved, I though a draw was fair.”

The late spot kick came a week after Brentford had missed one in similar circumstances to agonisingly fall just short of automatic promotion.

A win over Doncaster Rovers last week would have given Brentford a top two finish and a place in The Championship but Marcello Trotta missed a stoppage time penalty and the visitors broke away to score and win the game.

Farid said he had no doubt Kevin O’Connor would score this week.

“It was a weird feeling when we got the penalty.

“It came out of nothing again.

“I was thinking about last week but I saw Kev’s face, he was fully concentrated on what he needed to do.

“He did it well.

“When I saw his face I knew he would score.

“He can deal with this sort of situation.”
