Kadeem Harris spent three months on loan with Brentford from The Bluebirds during the 2013/14 season, never once finishing on the losing side. The winger’s arrival coincided with our upturn in form under Uwe Rosler and then Mark Warburton. Harris scored on his debut against Colchester United in a 3-1 win at Griffin Park and set up both winners in the games against Shrewsbury Town and Crawley Town shortly after. He also netted in the 5-0 FA Cup First Round win over Staines Town, to take his tally to two goals and two assists in five games, all of which The Bees won.

Harris continued to be play a key role over the next month until a hamstring injury picked up at Preston North End brought his time in West London to an end. In total, the then 20-year-old played 11 times for Brentford, ending on the winning side in ten of those games, before returning to the Welsh capital. It was only last season that Harris truly made the breakthrough at Cardiff, making 38 appearances and scoring four goals, predominantly in a right wing-back role. Handed the number 11 shirt to start this campaign, an ankle injury has limited him to just three appearances this term.

The most celebrated player to have played for both sides is, without doubt, Johnny Rainford who spent nearly a decade at Griffin Park in the 1950s and 1960s. Rainford moved to Brentford from Cardiff in 1953 having scored once in three appearances for The Bluebirds. After a slow start to life in West London, Rainford’s career sparked into life in 1957 as he provided the ammunition for the Terrible Twins, George Francis and Jim Towers. He set a club record by playing 129 competitive games in a row between 1958 and 1960, netting 26 goals over those three campaigns. He dropped down to non-league Tonbridge in 1962 having scored 49 goals in 324 games for The Bees and, in June 2015, was posthumously added to the club’s Hall of Fame.

Others to have represented both clubs include strikers Andy McCulloch, Deon Burton, and Tommy Smith, and goalkeeper Simon Moore.
