Brentford attacking midfield player Sam Saunders has agreed to extend his stay at Griffin Park and will sign a new two-year contract in the upcoming weeks.

Sam was out of contract at the end of the 2012/13 season but met with Sporting Director Mark Warburton last week and agreed to stay for the next two years.

The midfield player, who has played 144 games for The Bees in four years at Griffin Park, will formalise the deal later this month.

Mark Warburton said: “After very positive discussions last week, we are delighted to announce that Sam has agreed a new two year contract at the club.

“Over a four-year period Sam has displayed his level of professionalism and of course ability, allied to his clear passion for the Club and for playing a role in taking us forward to achieve our evident goals and ambitions.”

Sam was one of only three Brentford players out of contract at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Goalkeeper Antoine Gounet will be leaving Griffin Park at the end of his deal.

The 24-year-old French stopper signed in early 2012 after a successful trial and played one FA Cup game for The Bees.

He was a regular substitute and also featured for Brentford’s Development Squad.

Attacking midfield player Harry Forrester has been offered a new contract and the Club is awaiting a response from the 22-year-old.

Harry played 49 games for The Bees in 2012/13, scoring 11 goals.

He joined Brentford after being released by Aston Villa in the summer of 2011 and has played 68 games for the Club so far.

New contracts have also been offered to Harlee Dean and Adam Forshaw.

Harlee and Adam both joined Brentford in the summer of 2012 and are contracted to 2014.

Both initially joined The Bees during the 2011/12 season on loan from Southampton and Everton respectively.

Harlee played 56 games for The Bees this season and has hardly missed a game since arriving at Griffin Park in November 2011.

Adam had his first spell at Griffin Park cut short with a facial injury but played 53 games in his first full season at the Club, scoring three goals.

Mark Warburton added: “After an excellent season, Harry has been offered a new contract with the Club which we hope will clearly demonstrate our belief in his ability and our desire to see him continue his development in a Brentford shirt.

“Harry is one of our crop of talented young players and the fact they performed so well last season obviously leaves us at risk of the ‘calling’ of perceived ‘bigger’ clubs.

“However, they know they are well looked after, have the backing and trust of the Management team and can be part of a very exciting future at the Club.

“I have known Harry for many years now and have absolutely no doubt that his best option is to stay with Brentford.

“Let us hope Harry sees it the same way, we will be delighted to see him commit his future to us.

“Both Adam and Harlee are contracted through until the end of 2013/14 but the club have moved to recognise their development over the last 12 months and to reward them for their level of performance.

“Harlee has appeared 84 times for the club and has demonstrated a maturity and level of consistency beyond his years.

“Adam, likewise, has maintained an outstanding level of performance and has caught the eye with his excellent technical ability.

“As with Harry, they are part of a core nucleus of talented young players who have the ability to both take the club forward and cement its position at the higher level.

“Along with the experience and attributes of the senior players, this core group have a real opportunity to develop together under the expert tutelage of Manager Uwe Rösler and his team.

“On behalf of all at Brentford FC I would like to wish Antoine Gounet all the best for the future.

“The excellence of Simon Moore and Richard Lee has meant his chances have been limited but he has been a valuable member of the goalkeeper training group.”

Antonio German has indicated he will not be accepting the offer of a new contract.

The 21-year-old striker was offered full professional terms this summer at the end of his Development Squad contract.

He scored one goal in seven substitute appearances for the Club after signing in January 2012.

As Antonio is under 24 and has been offered a new contract, Brentford will be due compensation if he signs for another Club.

Brentford had five players on loan at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Tom Adeyemi, from Norwich City, Jake Bidwell, from Everton, Lee Hodson, from Watford, Rob Kiernan, from Wigan Athletic – who has been officially on loan at Griffin Park but returned to his parent club in February after picking up an injury, Marcello Trotta, from Fulham, and Bradley Wright-Phillips, from Charlton Athletic.

All have returned to their parent clubs at the end of their loan deals but Mark Warburton said the Club was in talks with Everton about bringing Jake Bidwell to Brentford on a permanent basis.

First joined The Bees in November 2011 on loan from Everton and was almost ever-present through to the end of the 2011/12 campaign.

He re-joined Brentford in August 2012 and stayed on loan for the entire season, making 50 appearances.

Mark Warburton added: “We are very hopeful that recent discussions with Everton concerning Jake Bidwell will result in a positive conclusion.

“Jake made his 75th appearance for the Club at Wembley and, again, has demonstrated a superb level of consistency over the last two seasons.

“He is highly regarded by all at Brentford and we hope sincerely that he will become a permanent player for the Club.

“On behalf of all at Brentford, I would like to thank the players for their efforts this season.

“All played a key role in a memorable season.

“We wish them all the best for the future and will be keeping a very close eye on them in case there is an opportunity to bring them back to Griffin Park.”
