Brentford B’s Edon Pruti was left frustrated following the side’s 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers Under-21s in the Premier League Cup on Saturday.
Blackburn came from behind to confirm a 2-1 win as they took the points in what was Brentford’s fourth match in the competition. The result keeps the side top of Group D but Rovers have drawn level as they both sit on nine points. The Bees are ahead of the Lancashire side on goal difference.
Reflecting on a game which the Bees dominated for large parts and created a host of opportunities on goal, Edon explained: “We know that we’ve played very well so it’s frustrating that we’ve lost the game, especially with how dominant we were the entire game. If we play like that for the remainder of this competition, then we will do just fine.”
With Blackburn ruthless on two occasions on the counter-attack to win the game, Edon gave an honest assessment. He continued: “There were two counter-attack goals (which Blackburn scored) and I think if you switch off, especially as a defender, then you won’t have a good game. You have to defend well for 90+ minutes and not 86. It’s a defining moment and I think the back three have to take accountability and hold our hands up. We’re the ones who have conceded and lost the game essentially, to be frank.”
On the goal that Brentford did get, Edon wasn’t surprised to see Ryan Trevitt get yet another goal for the team as he scored once again in what has been a positive run of form over the past few months for the whole team. Edon has been part of that side having started the past 11 matches.
The defender said: “Trev (Ryan Trevitt) is doing very well. When Val (Adedokun) cut it back to him, I knew that he would try and hit that inside post. He did it very well and finished good. It was good to go 1-0 up, but unfortunately, we couldn’t hold it out.
“I’ve started 11 games on the bounce so I couldn’t be happier, but I haven’t seen as many clean sheets as I would have liked so I’ve got to get that in my game and establish more to do better.”
