Tuesday saw the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust deliver the Grand Final of the Brentford 125 schools football competition on the pitch at Griffin Park.

Launched in 2014 in recognition of the 125th anniversary of Brentford Football Club, schools from across the boroughs of Hounslow, Ealing, Richmond, Hillingdon and Spelthorne have taken part in 5 separate competitions with the winners and runners-up progressing to the Grand Final at the home of Brentford FC earlier this week.

Year 3 & 4 pupils from across our community have been battling it out for the chance to represent their school and borough on the hallowed turf.

The 10 teams who qualified from their Borough tournaments took part in the group stages in the morning, with all of the pupils and teachers a credit to their schools, demonstrating wonderful team spirit and camaraderie and producing lots of great goals.

In the afternoon the competition entered the knock out stages when the 4 qualifiers tested themselves against one another in the semi-finals.

There was little to choose between the teams, but later in the afternoon the final was eventually contested between Our Lady & St John’s (Hounslow) & Echelford Primary (Spelthorne)

Brentford FC Chief Executive Mark Devlin was on hand to witness a closely fought final, with Echelford coming out on top 1-0.

After presenting the trophies to all of the finalists, Mark Devlin said:“We are delighted that so many schools across our community have been able to benefit from this unique season long competition, celebrating 125 years of Brentford Football Club. "It was brilliant to see so many school children, parents and teachers enjoying their football here at Griffin Park just as our fans have throughout this remarkable season in the Championship.

"The club continues to make strides on the pitch but our commitment to the community remains as strong as ever as we move towards our new stadium at Lionel Rd.”
