Brentford Turkey international striker Halil DerviÅŸoÄŸlu reached two special landmarks on Saturday evening. The 22-year-old, who spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Galatasaray Spor Kulübü in his home country, scored for Turkey in a win over Faroe Islands. It was his fifth international goal in his tenth cap.

Turkey’s win on Saturday came in a UEFA Nations League C Group One match. It was the first of four Turkey play in June and they won 4-0. Halil started the game, played 65 minutes and scored the second goal, just after half-time.

When he was selected to start, Halil earned his tenth cap. That put him in select company. Brentford have had 53 international players in a history that stretches back almost 133 years. Halil is only the ninth to have earned ten caps.

He is the first to reach the landmark since Marcus Forss, who did so last November. Other current Brentford players to have reached the ten-cap mark are Mathias Jensen and Christian Nørgaard, both for Denmark. Only five men in our history have reached 15 caps. The aforementioned Danish pair as well as our Club Record holder for most caps, another Dane, Henrik Dalsgaard. John Buttigieg, of Malta, and Kamohelo Mokotjo, of South Africa, are the others.

The goal Halil scored meant he extended the Club Record he holds for most international goals while on our books. Only 15 men have scored goals for their countries while on Brentford’s books. Only four players have scored more than one and only Halil has scored more than two.

Dai Hopkins played for Wales while on Brentford’s books in the 1930s. He earned 12 caps and scored two goals. Both were Club Records when he finished his career, and both have now been surpassed.

Marcus has scored two goals for Finland and Brentford’s Denmark international midfield player Christian Eriksen has scored two in the three caps he has earned since joining The Bees in January. Other current Brentford players could chase Halil down. Mathias Jensen and Christian Nørgaard have both scored once for Denmark while Tariqe Fosu, for Ghana, and Yoane Wissa, for Democratic Republic of Congo, have international goals to their credit.
