Brentford FC have announced that non-executive directors Donald Kerr and Mike Power, who have served on the Club’s Board since 2009 and 2014 respectively, will stand down on 30 June 2022.

Mike and Donald have both made huge contributions in their roles providing strategic oversight, advice and governance during what has been a historic period for the Club with its promotion to the Premier League and the development of Brentford Community Stadium. They have decided to step down as Brentford FC enters the next phase of its growth as a top-flight club.

Donald Kerr initially joined the Board in 2009, having been nominated by Bees United as one of two supporter-elected directors. Following Matthew Benham’s acquisition of the Club from Bees United in 2012, Donald was asked to remain as a club director. Donald also served for a number of years on the EFL Trust’s Board of Trustees as one of the EFL’s nominated representatives. Donald will remain as a trustee of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, a role he has held since 2010.

Mike Power meanwhile was appointed onto the Club’s Board in 2014, having also been on the Board of Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Ltd, the company initially responsible for the development of Brentford Community Stadium. Mike was born in Isleworth, educated in Hounslow and London University, and has been a Bees fan since 1959.

Mike Power said: “When I joined the Board, I described it as a ’50-year dream come true’, and those words hold true today. Our play-off victory against Swansea at Wembley and those victories against Arsenal and Chelsea last season, will live long in my memory. Off the field, the moment we secured planning permission for the new stadium in front of a packed-out Hounslow Council meeting in 2013 was another personal highlight.

“I am a passionate believer, however, that the best of Brentford is yet to come. The next decade will see many changes across the game with technology redefining the industry. Now is the right time for me to step down to allow others, with different skill sets, to guide our Club forward. It has been an absolute privilege to serve the Club, the community and the fans, most of whom are like me - an ordinary kid who grew up near a bus-stop in Hounslow.”

Donald Kerr commented: “I’ve been honoured to serve Brentford FC and am particularly proud having initially been nominated to represent the fans and their views.

“As we gear up for our second season in the Premier League and face the challenges and opportunities of the years ahead, new ideas and fresh voices are needed. As I stand down from the Club Board, I look forward to supporting the Trust’s work with thousands of people of all ages across our local community.”

Cliff Crown, Chair of Brentford FC offered his thanks on behalf of the Club, “I would like to thank Donald and Mike for the significant contributions that they have both made to Brentford FC. In their time associated with the Club, we have progressed through the leagues, built a new home and witnessed many memorable moments on the field. Their advice and influence has been instrumental over the years helping to steer the Club to where it is today.

“While Mike and Donald will stand down at the end of this month with our appreciation and our very best wishes, I know that they will continue to support The Bees, home and away. I am delighted to confirm they have both accepted roles as Vice Presidents going forward.”
