Demi Edwards was the standout performer in Brentford Women’s First Team’s win over Leatherhead in the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One on Sunday afternoon.

An incredible first-half hat-trick from the number 20 helped the Bees get back to winning ways as they left Fetcham Grove 4-0 winners.

Speaking on the game, Edwards explained: “It was a really good performance from the team as a whole, we were a bit shaky in the first few minutes of the game but then we settled into the match.

“It didn’t take us too long to get the ball into the back of the net and get into our rhythm so I think we should be proud of ourselves.”

Kirsty Matthews put the Bees in front on 24 minutes with Edwards getting the visitor's second just two minutes later after a brilliant cross from Chloe Webb fell to the 28-year-old at the far post, leaving her with a simple tap in.

The attacking midfielder followed this up with two astonishing long-distance goals with the first coming from 25 yards out as her shot arrowed into the top left corner, leaving the Leatherhead keeper with no chance.

Edwards sealed her hat-trick on 40 minutes through a venomous strike from 30 yards out which flew into the top left corner similar to her second goal, leaving the hosts stunned after what was an amazing first-half performance from the attacker.

Talking on her goals, Edwards said: “If I had to pick a favourite it would be my third goal, it was slightly further out than my second and it got me my hat-trick so I was very happy with that.

“I always want to be positive in my play and help the team as much as I can in an attacking sense so I’m glad I was able to do that.”

Edwards went on to explain the importance of Sunday’s victory and has high hopes for the First Team come the end of the season.

“That was a big win for us, we sit top of the table now, obviously Dorking have some games in hand over us, but we just need to concentrate on winning the rest of our games and we will see where it takes us.

“We’re still fully focused on gaining promotion, last weekend’s defeat has made that slightly more difficult for us, but it was good to get back on track and get a win against tough opposition.”

Edwards has been a key feature for the Bees in recent weeks and will look to continue her fine run of form as the Christmas break approaches.
