Demi Edwards was left delighted after she helped the Women’s First Team proceed through to the Second Round of the County Cup following their 2-0 win against local rivals Actonians Reserves.

Edwards broke the deadlock scoring her first-ever goal for the Bees with Kirsty Matthews sealing the win for the visitors at Gunnersbury Park.

Reflecting on the victory, Edwards explained: “I thought we played well, more so in the second half, this was when we got the ball down and started creating chances.”

It took both sides a while to get going with the first half seeing very few opportunities for either team to take the lead.

The game lit up in the second 45 though as the Bees gave away a penalty but debutant Azza Fouly made a great save to keep the score line level.

On 66 minutes Edwards got the opener after she found herself in space from around 25 yards out and smashed the ball into Elisa Dogor’s left corner leaving the Actonians keeper with no chance.

Talking on her goal, she said: “It was a great feeling, especially as it was my first goal for the club.

“I was becoming slightly frustrated prior to today because I wanted to get on the score sheet so badly, so I was delighted when I saw the ball go into the back of the net.”

After the number 20 was highly influential for the Women’s First Team in their previous game against Watford Ladies Development, coming off the bench and grabbing an assist, Edwards earned her place in the starting line-up on Sunday.

Speaking on her recent form, she continued: “I always want to be named in the starting 11 if possible and I feel my recent form has shown this.

“I understand we have a strong team and there’s lots of competition for places so I will continue to work as hard as possible to impress the manager but overall, as long as the team is winning, I’m happy.”

Edwards has shown great commitment since joining the Bees at the start of the season and like many of the players she is in full-time employment outside of football.

The 28-year-old is as a Nurse for the British Army and is a great representation of how hard everyone works across both women’s teams.
