There was a special presentation at Saturday's fixture with Bolton Wanderers as the five winners of the Danny Fullbrook Fearless Foundation writing competition received their awards on the pitch at Griffin Park.
The Danny Fullbrook Fearless Foundation was created in memory of talented Journalist Danny Fullbrook who, in June 2012, lost his battle with cancer aged 40.
Since then the Foundation has worked with a number of organisations, including the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, to harness the power of sport.
Last October, the Danny Fullbrook Fearless Foundation provided funds for the Brentford Trust to implement a Fearless Journalism project for Year 5 and 6s in local schools.
Working alongside the Griffin Park Learning Zone, nearly 600 children have been guided through a writing workshop and received a free coaching session from one of the experienced Trust coaches.
They were then set a challenge to write a match report on this season's Brentford vs Fulham match with the five overall winners being given tickets to Saturday's game and being presented with their awards on the pitch.
Before kick-off, the work was on display at St Paul’s Church Hall as part of the BFC Fan Zone before the five winners were treated to a tour where they met journalists reporting on the Sky Bet Championship fixture.
The judging panel of Sylvie Fullbrook, Jo Fullbrook, Daily Star Sports Editor Howard Wheatcroft and freelance journalist Joanna Tilley were impressed by the standard of entries.
After many hours deliberation Saira Backhouse, Iman Butt, Niall Winter, Joseph Brooks and Anoushka Gardonyi were chosen as the five winners and received their awards, alongside Chairman Cliff Crown, on the pitch at half-time during The Bees' 2-2 draw.
The Trust and Fearless would also like to thank the schools which took part: Little Ealing Primary School, Oakland’s Primary School, Green Dragon Primary School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, St Paul’s Church of England Primary School, Heston Primary School, Cavendish Primary School, St Mark’s Primary School, Strand on the Green and Worple Primary School.
Danny's mother Sylvie Fullbrook said: “Danny would be absolutely thrilled to see what is happening with money generated in his name and the way it is inspiring young people."
