Everyone at Brentford FC is saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Curran, former leader of the London Borough of Hounslow.

Throughout his tenure, Steve was not just a community leader but a true friend to our football club. His support and belief in the potential of our club and our community was fundamental to turning the dream of our new stadium into reality.

His role in overcoming the myriad of challenges associated with such a project exemplified his commitment to the club and the community. He championed our cause, negotiated hurdles and was pivotal in securing the necessary support for the move to our new home.

Under Steve's leadership, Hounslow Council was recognised as the Council of the Year in 2021, a testament to his ambitious approach and the success of the council under his guidance. This accolade reflects the innovative and impactful work undertaken during his time, positively influencing the lives of those in our community.

Steve’s efforts were recognised last year when he was honoured with an MBE for his services to Local Government and the Hounslow community and by the recent honour bestowed by the council to make him an alderman of the borough.

Jon Varney, Brentford FC chief executive, said: "On behalf of Brentford FC, I send our condolences to Steve’s family and loved ones.

“I was privileged to know him on both a professional and personal level. He was an outstanding leader and a very dear friend. Steve had great vision along with the ability to deliver - it is so rare for someone to have both attributes in abundance.

“His life was a tour de force and he will be sorely missed.”

As we mourn Steve’s passing at far too young an age, we also celebrate his life and contribution to west London.

As a club and as a community, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and all who were touched by his leadership, kindness and by his humour.

In tribute to a true supporter of Brentford FC, we say thank you.

Rest in peace, Steve.
