Brentford fans recognise the importance of sustainability, says the findings of the club’s sustainability survey.

The results also showed that 62 per cent of Bees fans are aware of the action the club has already taken to protect and enhance the environment.

As part of Green Football Weekend, we asked fans for their thoughts on sustainability at Brentford, to identify where we can improve action and communication regarding our activity.

Key highlights from the survey included:

  • Brentford fans on average rate the importance of sustainability at 8.1 (out of 10)

  • 62 per cent of fans are at least somewhat aware of the club’s sustainability efforts

  • Fans, on average, rate the effectiveness of the club’s sustainability initiatives at 6.7 (out of 10)

  • Fans identified reducing waste as the most desired action for the club to take, citing recycling at Gtech Community Stadium as a key topic

  • 64 per cent of fans surveyed want to hear more about the club’s sustainability efforts

Brentford FC sustainability manager James Beale said: "It's great to see the positive response to our first fan survey on sustainability and to hear that this issue is important to our fans. We agree with them, and we will use the findings as a benchmark going forward.

"We believe that becoming more sustainable is a journey, and it is critical that we work closely with our fans to make progress.

“This season we have been working hard to understand our current environmental impact, to educate our staff and to grow our connections with fans interested in sustainability.

"Going forward we will continue to take action, particularly looking at reducing our carbon emissions, reducing waste and enhancing biodiversity and nature across our sites."

Head to our sustainability webpage to see how we approach the topic and seek to drive positive change going forward.

If you didn’t complete the survey and would like to hear more about sustainability at the club, opt in to be contacted in the future.

Interested fans can also join Sustaina-Bees, an independent group for Brentford fans with knowledge and concern about the environmental crisis.

The group frequently organises cycle rides to the Gtech and accessible away grounds on matchdays. For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the fans, together with staff from the club and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, that engaged in sustainable activity for The Green Football Cup during the build-up to the Premier League’s Green Football Weekend. The Trust, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, is committed to achieving tangible steps towards sustainability best practices.

Fans and the wider community were encouraged to take part in the Green Football Cup and to score ‘green goals’ for Brentford FC. Goals could be scored by completing everyday sustainable acts, such as cycling to work, eating a vegetarian meal or washing clothes on low temperatures.

Thanks to the efforts of 124 Brentford fans and staff from the club and Trust, we finished in fifth place (out of 117 football organisations) with 1,338 goals scored.
