Brentford Football Club confirmed today that 398 sanctions were handed out during the 2024/25 season.

Sanctions were given to individuals who had breached ground regulations or committed other offences on matchdays.

The club is committed to transparency around the reporting of all sanctions recorded during the season.

This follows the club’s decision during the 2023/24 season to include a wider range of sanctions and incidents as part of its reporting, including those dealt with on a matchday, all issues relating to visiting supporters and ticketing offences such as touting or passing on tickets to known away fans.

The club remains committed to implementing rigorous safety and security measures to address incidents and to encouraging supporters to report unacceptable behaviour.

This year’s report shows there was an increase in the overall number of recorded incidents (up from 316 total incidents in 2023/24) and that 220 out of the 398 sanctions involved away fans rather than home supporters.

More than half of the breaches of ground regulations and ticketing conditions were due to away fans in home areas.

Ensuring all supporters have a safe and enjoyable matchday experience is a priority and the club continues to take action to tackle the problem of away fans in home areas, including its recent commitment to moving to digital ticketing a year earlier than the Premier League mandate for this.

Regular training is also provided to all matchday staff to encourage them to spot and act on unacceptable behaviour when it occurs to keep our fans safe at Gtech Community Stadium.

Currently, six incidents from last season are still under investigation at the club and there are 28 open cases with the police.

Altogether, of the 398 individuals sanctioned above, the offences are broken down as follows:

  • 358 people breaking ground regulations and ticketing conditions (including away fans in home areas, smoking, intoxication, abusive language, drinking in view of the pitch, children under 14 attending without an adult and other breaches)

  • 21 drugs-related offences

  • 14 incidences of violent or anti-social behaviour

  • Three incidences of racial abuse

  • One incident of disablism

  • One ‘Ask for Angela’ incident

In addition to these sanctions, 746 members had their memberships revoked due to ticket touting.

Brentford’s fan and community relations director Sally Stephens said: “Our priority is to ensure that fans have a safe and enjoyable experience at Brentford games - we have robust measures in place to deal with any poor behaviour and are committed to taking action wherever needed to address this. The number of sanctions reported represent a tiny percentage of the fans attending our games.

“We continually review the processes we have in place and work closely with our stewards and matchday staff to support them.

“We encourage fans to report incidents of unacceptable fan behaviour when they witness or experience them. This is an important part of ensuring we work together to create a great matchday experience for everyone.”

Plans for the 2025/26 season

More than half (185) of the 332 breaches of ground regulations and ticketing conditions were due to away fans in home areas.

This season, the club has taken strong action against ticket touting by introducing digital ticketing, which provides greater visibility of exactly who is attending games and helps to prevent ticket touts.

We encourage all fans attending matchdays to report any unacceptable behaviour or incidents during matches, either to a nearby steward or via one of the reporting methods, including scanning the QR code in the toilets (or on the back of seats), texting BFC followed by a message to 62277 or reporting via the official Brentford app.
