Brentford FC marked its 134-year anniversary with a special event at Gtech Community Stadium in collaboration with Bees United celebrating it history.

Following the event, a plaque was unveiled at Kew Bridge at a location the club was founded on 10 October 1889.

The event was held on the eve of the first Brentford game which took place on 23 November 1889 against Kew.

The plaque, commissioned by Bees United and member donations, marks the location of the Oxford and Cambridge Hotel where members of the Brentford Rowing Club decided that a football club should be formed to utilise a new recreation ground for sporting purposes.

On 16 October, the inaugural committee made the decision to form Brentford Football Club. The plaque can be viewed by supporters.

Bees United retain a ‘special share’ in the club, providing fans with the right to veto the sale of the stadium unless certain conditions are met. Bees United also retains a seat on the club’s main board of directors as the fans’ representative.

Before the unveiling, club staff, legends, representatives from Bees United and fans came together for an event where attendees heard about Brentford FC’s past with historians Jonathan Burchill, Brendan Nevin and club ambassador Peter Gilham.

Items from the club’s history including matchday programmes and merchandise were also on display as well as previous kits worn by Brentford players throughout the years.

Brentford chair Cliff Crown said: “Togetherness and community are key values to everyone at Brentford Football Club. It was those values that inspired those members of the Brentford Rowing Club to create a football team for the residents of Brentford. And now we have a special place that can bring fans and the local community together to take a moment to celebrate our club. “
