Brentford FC have appointed Claus Nørgaard as new First Team assistant coach, subject to the granting of a work permit.

Nørgaard arrives in West London as the Bees prepare for the resumption of the 2022/23 Premier League season, which was halted due to the FIFA World Cup 2022, being played in Qatar.

Nørgaard will join up with rest of the Brentford coaching staff in the coming days.

Nørgaard leaves a role working for the Danish Football Association and has most recently coached the national team at under-18 level.

He has had two spells working with the Denmark national youth teams and worked alongside Brentford head coach Thomas Frank during one of them. He was also assistant to Frank at Brøndby IF for three years.

Frank said: “I am very pleased that we have brought Claus in to this role.

“Whenever there is a change in the coaching staff it is a chance to bring in different experiences and knowledge. Claus’ arrival will naturally mean there is a different dynamic and I am sure he will help us progress.

“I have known Claus for a long time. We worked together at the Danish association and also at Brøndby for many years. He will bring a lot of knowledge and coaching skills to the staff and has a personality that will fit well into the group. He will help the Club move forward.”

Nørgaard moved in to coaching in his 20s and earned a job with the Danish FA before his 30th birthday.

As well as his time with the national youth teams, Nørgaard has worked at Vejle Boldklub, SønderjyskE Fodbold and Esbjerg fB.

He was head coach at SønderjyskE for just under two years in the Danish top tier and also had a spell in charge at Esbjerg.

He moved back into the international ranks earlier this year, leading the Danish under-18 side, before taking the job at Brentford.
