Brentford B left-back Ilias Chatzitheodoridis has left the Club and joined Panathanaikos, the 20-time champions of Greece. The 20-year-old returned to his homeland for a medical last weekend after Brentford agreed a fee with the Greece Super League side.

Ilias finalised his move on Monday, 23 July, and has already linked up with his new side ahead of the start of the Greek league season next month.

The move ends a two-year stay in West London for Ilias. He signed for Brentford B in August 2016 after a successful trial. Ilias moved to West London after completing a two-year scholarship with Arsenal. He had previously been at the Premier League side's academy in Greece while playing for a local team.

Ilias made his professional debut for The Bees in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon last August and played in all four of Brentford's cup ties last season, his only appearances for the Club in competitive games. He made his first appearance in a Championship matchday squad in late 2016 and was an unused substitute in ten league matches during the first half of the 2017/18 season. Ilias spent the second half of last term on loan at Cheltenham Town and played 18 Sky Bet League Two games for the Gloucestershire side.

Kevin O'Connor, Brentford B Head Coach said: "Ilias has made great progress since he has been with us. He has improved in all areas over the past two years and his loan at Cheltenham gave him great experience of the professional game. It helped him develop as a player and a person and made other clubs aware of his potential.

"There are a lot of very good players between Ilias and a First Team place here so when a club of the stature of Panathanaikos came in for him, it was a great opportunity and a deal that suited all parties. I would like to congratulate Ilias on earning such a move and wish him all the best for the future. He has done a job for the Club at B Team and First Team level when needed, and we will follow his career closely.

"Our aim with the B Team is to get these players to the best level they can, whether that is at Brentford or elsewhere and we have been able to help Ilias progress, which is great news."
