Charlie Adams said he wanted to come back for the start of pre-season fit and in a position to show he is ready to play First Team football.

The attacking midfield player signed a new two-year contract earlier this week to keep him at Griffin Park until the summer of 2015.

Charlie was part of Brentford’s successful Development Squad last season and helped The Bees finish fourth in the inaugural Under-21 Professional Development League Two South.

The 19-year-old scored seven goals in 19 Professional Development League appearances and set up many more.

He initially joined the Club after being spotted playing Futsal with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and turned professional last summer.

After making his Football League debut against Carlisle United in March, Charlie said he wanted to work his way in to the First Team picture on a more regular basis.

“This is my seventh year at the Club now,” said the midfield man, speaking to Bees Player.

“I have come up through the ranks.

“I am ready to kick on next season, carry on improving and try and make my way in to the First Team.

“I had some time to relax over the summer but I have been working hard.

“I have been working with the physios to make sure my body is right.

“I want to come back strong.

“In the early part of pre-season I want to get myself in the Manager’s plans.

“I want to show I am fit and ready to play.

“I want to try and get in his team.”

Charlie impressed in the Youth Team in 2011/12 and made the step up to Under-21 football last season.

He was part of a Brentford team that won 12 of their 20 games, beating every other team in the Professional Development League South at least once.

Charlton Athletic eventually won the competition, beating Cardiff City in the final after both overcame the top teams in the north.

Charlie was in Brentford teams that beat both last term.

“Development football is a lot more competitive,” he said.

“We are playing against better teams and they are going all out to win.

“You come up against teams like Charlton who want to win the league.

“That’s the main difference from Youth Team football.

“It’s about winning the league.

“Learning to win is part of the development.”
