Charlie Adams said Brentford’s Development Squad produced a “superb” first half performance and then “did what it took to get the points in the second half” against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Bees beat the south coast side 2-1 in an Under-21 Professional Development League Two South match last night.

Leon Redwood scored the first for Brentford before Charlie got the second – Brentford held on to win after the home side pulled one back in the second half.

Charlie, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said Brentford played well and stuck to their game plan.

It was the fourth Professional Development League win in a row for The Bees, who are challenging near the top of the table.

“It’s a very good result for us,” said Charlie.

“I think we are in the top two in the league now.

“We were superb first half and we did what it took to get the points in the second half.

“We put in a shift.

“We did what was needed.

“You see it all the time; a team will come back at you.

“We played well.

“Our game plan was to press them and see if we could win the ball back high up the pitch.

“We conceded in the second half and had to sit off a bit.

“We asked them to break us down, we stayed tight and narrow.

“I think we did a good job.”

Brentford stifled Brighton for long periods – they stopped the hosts playing out from defence and tried to force them to play long.

Charlie said it was a plan Brentford had worked on and everyone knew their roles.

He praised the communication of the players around him, particularly central midfield partner Jake Reeves.

“We worked on this game plan during the week,” said Charlie.

“We knew our roles and we knew our responsibilities.

“It’s hard to do.

“It’s hard work.

“You have to stay mentally sharp.

“I had Jake Reeves alongside me, who helped me keep in the shape, and all the players were talking to each other.

“When you do it as a team, it helps.”

Charlie scored Brentford’s second when Brighton goalkeeper Daniel East failed to hold on to a fierce Luke Norris shot.

Leon Redwood had scored the first, turning home a Josh Clarke cross.

“We wanted to score early and put the pressure on,” said Charlie.

“We knew if they got a goal up they would try and keep the ball.

“Our game plan was to nick one early.

“Personally, I always try to get in to as many shooting positions as possible; it’s always nice to get a goal.”

Charlie missed the start of the season after picking up an injury but said he was now fully fit and “on the up”.

“To pick up an injury was disappointing but these things happen,” he said.

“Football is all about how you recover from setbacks.

“I have recovered well, I am on the up.

“I give credit to the Medical Department and the Sports Science guys.

“I am back to full fitness now and I hope my performances are getting better and better.”
