League Position (Premier League): 20th (2013/14 (Football League): 4th)

Average league attendance: 17,808 (2013/14: 16,655)

Top league goalscorer: Charlie Austin (18)

Out of all the 92 Premier and Football League sides, Queens Park Rangers will be most glad to see the back of the 2014/15 season. It was, without question, a campaign to forget for Rangers fans as they finished bottom of the Premier League.

Having been promoted via the Play-Off Final against Derby County at Wembley Stadium last May courtesy of a last minute Bobby Zamora goal, hopes were high they would not be involved in a relegation fight. However, an opening day defeat at home to Hull City set the tone, and Rangers were bundled out of the Capital One Cup by Burton Albion.

In the first half of the season, their away form was awful, losing 11 games in a row before a 2-0 win at Sunderland on February 10. By that time Harry Redknapp had resigned as manager, with Academy Coach Chris Ramsey installed on an interim basis. Redknapp’s departure had come after the January transfer window, so Ramsey had little choice but to choose from a squad that had underperformed all season.

They were relegated with a whimper after a 6-1 defeat at Manchester City with two league matches remaining. Their top goalscorer Charlie Austin, recently called up to the England squad, is rumoured to be leaving so Rangers will need to replace his penalty box threat. Only Austin and goalkeeper Rob Green can be pleased with their contributions in 2014/15.

This summer gives the Club the opportunity to release several high earners, in a bid to reduce the size and average age of the squad. Ramsey signed a three-year permanent contract last month and may prove to be a shrewd choice, with his low key demeanour in contrast to the previous appointments under owner Tony Fernandes.
