Milton Keynes Dons

League Position (League One): 2nd (2013/14: 10th)

Average league attendance: 9,452 (2013/14: 9,007)

Top league goalscorer: Will Grigg (22)

Milton Keynes Dons return to the second tier of English football for the first time in 11 years after a stellar League One campaign that ended in automatic promotion.

Their season started in style as they secured a stunning 4-0 Capital One Cup victory over Manchester United at Stadiummk in August. A record 26,969 crowd saw Will Grigg and Benik Afobe score twice apiece to embarrass their famous visitors.

In the league they kept a level of consistency and were top of League One on Boxing Day. A patchy start to the year was brushed aside in the final ten games, with nine wins to ensure automatic promotion ahead of Preston North End.

Top goalscorer was loan signing Will Grigg. Borrowed from Brentford for the season, the 23-year-old Northern Ireland international scored 24 goals in 50 games. Robinson had to deal with the loss of fellow loanee striker, Benik Afobe, who moved from parent club Arsenal to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.

Key to their success was a free scoring approach to games, especially at home, putting seven past Oldham Athletic, and six against Colchester United, Crewe Alexandra and Leyton Orient. They capped off the season in style, beating Yeovil Town 5-1 and give Robinson his first promotion as Dons manager.

Milton Keynes Dons have the stadium to host Premier League football, but a season of adjustment may be required before top flight football can considered in Buckinghamshire.
