Hull City return to the Championship after two seasons in the Premier League. They were relegated on the last day of the season, three points from safety.
The started their competitive campaign well, winning their Europa League two-legged tie against Odu Trencin, plus an opening day Premier League win at Queens Park Rangers. However, they won only one more league match until Boxing Day, which put them deep in the relegation zone.
Back to back wins in February against Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers gave them hope, but three defeats and one draw in their final four games sealed The Tigers fate. Nikica Jelavic ended up as Hull’s top goalscorer with eight, with Dame N'Doye proving a reasonable January transfer window purchase as the Senegal international scored five goals from 15 games.
Bruce has released long serving defender Paul McShane, Joe Dudgeon, Maynor Figueroa, Liam Rosenior, and Yannick Sagbo, which will free up funds for new players. The fans have responded well to Hull’s demotion, with more than 9,500 fans renewing their Season Tickets for the new campaign.
Manager Steve Bruce will have a busy summer recruiting new players who can get The Tigers promoted back into the top flight. Hull could struggle to repeat 2013’s promotion and a season of consolidation may follow.
