Brentford’s Development Squad conceded two goals in the last ten minutes as they were beaten by Bristol City.

The Bees looked set for their first points in the Under-21 Professional Development League as they went ahead twice.

They scored inside the first minute, re-took the lead in the second half and had chances to score more.

But City found two equalisers and although Richard Lee saved a penalty, the hosts won it inside the final five minutes.

The Bees could not have started better – scoring within 38 seconds.

Emmanuel Oyeleke fed Antonio German on the left and his low cross was turned past his own goalkeeper by City defender Curtis Jones.

But they never really built on that in the first period and City deserved to be level at the break.

The equaliser came midway through the first half when Joe Bryan delivered a corner from the right and Tom King rose highest to nod home inside the six-yard box.

Brentford had chances to go two up before the leveller – Tom Adeyemi shot over after Paul Hayes broke clear and fed the midfield player and German was just unable to turn in a Ryan Fredericks cross.

Jones headed over for City and Lee saved from Bryan while Leon Legge made a fine tackle to prevent Kevin Karns scoring.

Both teams had chances to go in ahead at half time – Harry Forrester had the best but failed to beat goalkeeper Lewis Carey when he went through one-on-one but City went closest as a Karns shot hit the top of the crossbar.

Neil Kilkenny also went close from distance before the break while Hayes did the same for The Bees after the re-start.

The game continued to be even after the break but Brentford almost went ahead when Hayes broke down the right and cross for the arriving Emmanuel Oyeleke, his shot looked destined for the net before Nathan Battersby made a superb block.

Forrester shot wide for Brentford and Lee got down well to keep out a Kilkenny shot before Brentford went ahead just past the hour.

It came from a City corner that Brentford scrambled away as Anderson fired it back in to the danger zone – German broke out and exchanged passes with Forrester before shooting past Carey from 20 yards.

That lead should have lasted seconds as Battersby won a penalty as he was tripped just inside the box but Lee again proved his penalty prowess by diving low to his right to keep out Bobby Reid’s effort.

Brentford had appeals of their own as Forrester danced clear in the box and appeared to be fouled by Jack Batten but referee Mervyn Amphlett decided no offence had been committed this time.

Oyeleke headed narrowly over as the game began to get stretched and City searched for a second equaliser.

Adeyemi shot just wide after leading another break while Hayes lifted a lob just over while at the other end, Wes Burns shot over and Lee got down well to keep out an Anderson volley.

City equalised with eight minutes left when Burns again broke free on the right and smashed a shot home from 15 yards.

They almost scored through Bryan but his shot was blocked but did get their goal soon after.

Anderson cut inside off the left and his low shot hit Aaron Pierre, wrong-footed Lee and rolled in to the net to give the home side the win.
