Five second-half goals from Brentford Women’s B Team ensured their place in the hat for the Second Round of the JGMT Cup after defeating Hackney Women Reserves.

The Bees made it three wins out of three after they came from behind to overcome a tough Hackney Reserves side at Bedfont Sports Club on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts got off to the worst possible start as Hackney took the lead on 12 minutes.

An in-swinging corner kick flew goal bound with Bees keeper, Emily Boycott doing everything she could to keep the ball out but despite getting a good hand on the cross the ball found its way into the back of the net.

Determined to get a leveller, the Bees went close through Calli Weaver on 24 minutes.

The number 16 showed great desire to get on the end of a cross-field pass, cutting inside and unleashing a powerful strike which was well saved by the Hackney keeper at her near post.

The visitors did well to see out the rest of the first half frustrating the Women’s B Team for large periods, but it seemed only a matter of time before they found an equaliser.

It took the Bees just two minutes into the second half to get their goal and it was Weaver with a brilliant strike.

Captain, Kasey Clifford played an excellent ball between Hackney’s right back and centre back to find Weaver who smashed her shot towards the near post clipping the bar before finding the back of the net.

On 51 minutes Lillie Elsbury, who has recently just come back from injury, put the hosts in front.

The defender picked up the ball on the halfway line and attempted to put a deep cross into the box. The ball flew goal bound and with the Hackney keeper expecting a cross she was left out of position and unable to stop the effort from going into the goal.

The B Team seemed to have found their rhythm and began dominating the ball which led to another goal just six minutes later.

Clifford continued her impressive goal-scoring form as she curled her free kick from around 25 yards out into the top right corner leaving the Hackney keeper with no chance.

On 61 minutes the home team got their fourth and put the game out of sight for the visitors.

Clifford was at the heart of the action again, this time the provider as she played through Hannah Quinton with a pass from the right flank. Quinton took one touch before neatly tucking away the ball into the bottom corner scoring her first-ever goal for the club in brilliant fashion.

The hosts couldn’t be contained and got their fifth and final goal on 73 minutes through Cheyenne Faulkner.

The Bees number 18 beat the Hackney full-back before smashing the ball into the bottom left corner which clipped the post before finding its way into the net.

There could have been a sixth on 90 minutes when the home team were awarded a penalty, but Chelsey Logan unfortunately put her spot kick wide.

Following the victory, Brentford Manager Tommy Ryan-Maynard was left ecstatic by his team’s performance.

“After being a goal down at half-time we decided to change up the system which really helped in the second half, but all credit goes to the players for turning it around.

“There were many very good performances across the pitch but I have to give a special mention to Kasey who was outstanding yet again.

“Despite their goal, Hackney didn’t really cause us too many problems so I’m delighted with the performance and it’s great to go through to the Second Round of another cup.”
