Renai McCrea has enjoyed an outstanding first season with Brentford Women after joining in the summer of 2025.

Off the pitch, McCrea is equally ambitious. A sports psychology graduate, she works as a swimming teacher and personal trainer and has launched her own business, MexercisePlus.

Balancing football and entrepreneurship, McCrea has quickly become a key figure for the Bees, combining her tactical understanding on the pitch with ambition and drive off it.

The left-footed winger and full-back joined the club in the summer of 2025 and has made an immediate impact, contributing six goals and five assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.

"I was drawn to Brentford because of the club’s reputation and how well the team performed last season," McCrea says.

"I’d heard a lot through social media and from friends in the game, and it all made me want to be part of it. So far, it’s been an incredible experience."

Describing herself as a 'tactical' player who prefers smart, simple football, McCrea thrives on linking play, keeping the ball moving, and maintaining structure.

Since joining, she has focused on boosting her confidence in the final third, particularly in one-on-one situations, and scoring opportunities.

"Last season I scored just one goal, but in the second half of this season I’ve managed six," she continues.

"It’s been about finding that composure and believing I can contribute more in attack."

Her playing style has been shaped by some of the game’s best.

"I’ve always looked up to Lauren James for her close control and strength in attack, and Lucy Bronze defensively for her movement into the final third," McCrea explains.

"I also watched Ashley Cole and Eden Hazard a lot, so those players naturally influenced me too."

While pinpointing a single highlight of her season is difficult, McCrea values the welcome she’s received from team-mates and coaches alike.

"It’s been one of my favourite seasons in my career so far. The girls are so supportive, and having coaches like Carly and George, alongside the rest of the staff, who are determined to help us reach our full potential, have made the experience even better."

Matchday preparation combines focus, faith, and routine.

"I listen to gospel music in the morning to help me stay calm and centred, and I stick to my stretching routine and high-carb meal before kick-off. It helps me feel ready both physically and mentally," she says.

Off the pitch, McCrea’s drive extends far beyond football. A recent graduate with a degree in sports psychology, she also works as a swimming teacher and personal trainer.

She has founded her own business, Mexercise Plus, aimed at helping people, particularly older adults and those with long-term health conditions, return to physical activity.

"It’s about more than just exercise," she explains.

"I focus on confidence, consistency, and long-term relationships. It’s where psychology meets movement, and I love seeing the difference it makes in people’s lives."

Balancing football, work, and entrepreneurship is no small feat, but McCrea embraces it with discipline and determination.

"It’s a lot to manage, but I enjoy every part of it. Football gives me passion and purpose, and helping people improve their lives through exercise is equally rewarding," she adds.

With her versatility, intelligence, and off-field ambition, McCrea has already cemented herself as an essential part at Brentford.

As the Bees look to maintain their strong position in the London and South East Premier Division table, her influence, both on and off the pitch continues to grow.

McCrea and the west Londoners return to action on Sunday when they face Ashford Town away (2pm kick-off GMT).
