Kasey Clifford’s spectacular hat-trick helped Brentford Women’s B team book their place in the Capital Cup final (Junior Section) with a 3-1 win over Tooting Bec at Bedfont Sports Club.
The Women’s B team had to work hard for the win but Clifford was the difference on the day as her three goals ensured the home team’s progression to the final of the competition.
Speaking on the victory, Clifford said: “I’m really happy I thought we played well against a strong side who put up a good fight, but we managed to come out on top.
“That’s both Brentford Women’s teams into the final now which is great so hopefully we can both go on and win it now.”
Just before half-time, Clifford scored a free-kick from around 30 yards which caught the Tooting Bec keeper off guard as the ball bounced just in front of the opposition's number one before finding the back of the net.
The attacking midfielder put the Bees back in front in the second half with a confident penalty into the top left corner after Tooting snatched an equaliser before the break.
Clifford has a 100% record from the spot
Clifford sealed her hat-trick with the best goal of the lot as she latched onto a loose ball and let fly from the right side of the penalty box with her effort arrowing into the top left corner.
Talking on her shooting ability, Clifford explained: “I always feel confident when I have time on the ball even if I am far out from goal, I believe if I shoot there is a good chance it’s going to find the back of the net.
“I think I catch teams out with it most of the time as they probably don’t expect me to shoot from so far out but it’s one of my strongest attributes and it has worked a number of times this season.”
After the Women’s B team went 3-1 up Tooting grew in frustration as the game became quite physical in periods but Clifford who captains the side, did a good job to keep the side focused on winning the match.
“The team did well to not get involved in stuff off the ball, I think Tooting were trying to put us off our game but we did well to remain composed.
“We knew if we started getting booked it could have caused suspensions in the final to important players in the team.”
Clifford and Karen Abou-Abdallah have built a solid partnership in the centre midfield position and were key to Brentford’s success against Tooting.
The number 20 discussed her relationship with Abou-Abdallah as a positive one and believes they are able to bring the best out of each other.
Clifford continued: “I love playing with Karen, not only are we great friends off the pitch but we also work really well on the pitch.
“Our communication is what makes us so effective and we are able to trust each other even in the tensest situations.”
