Brentford played out a 2-2 draw against Clapton Community on Sunday afternoon at the Old Spotted Dog Ground in the London South East Division One North.
The Bees fought back from an early Clapton goal to go into the break level thanks to another brilliant Chloe Logie finish. A much-improved second-half performance saw Logie strike again for the visitors only for Clapton to equalise late on as the home side secured a draw.
Karleigh Osborne made four changes to the side that beat Hackney last weekend with Evie Witek returning in goal, Cara Graham and Maddie Heavingham-Ford added to the backline and Nikki Woods making her way back in the team.
It was a cagey opening to the game as the Bees aimed to familiarise themselves with the bumpy grass pitch.
Clapton managed to get themselves ahead just 15 minutes in when a free-kick from Egle Trezzi deflected off Regan Graver before finding the top-left corner.
The midfielder had another chance for the hosts moments later when her header from a corner went just wide.
Despite enjoying some good spells of possession Brentford were struggling to work the ball into top scorer Chloe Logie who had very little to play off in the opening 20 minutes.
Logie’s importance to the visitors was evident when Brentford’s first positive attacking move of the game saw the side equalise moments before the half hour mark, and it was the striker who got the goal with her first shot.
A Chloe Webb cross found the forward who took the ball brilliantly on the turn and smashed her shot past the Clapton keeper to continue her clinical run in front of goal.
Brentford’s goal seemed to slightly wake the side up as the away team managed to work the ball up the pitch in a much more consistent manner.
Clapton were able to see off any late Brentford pressure in the opening half as both sides went into the break on level terms.
Woods looked a real threat in the opening minutes of the second half with the left winger beating her marker and crossing a teasing ball into the box, but no one was there to touch the ball into the net.
Logie had a good opportunity to put her side ahead with what would have been her second goal of the game but her left footed shot went inches wide of the far right post.
Brentford were on top and the introduction of Ella Cottrell from the bench proved to be a positive one.
The away side were eventually rewarded for their constant pressure on the Clapton goal and it was Logie again who struck for the Bees.
The striker took the ball down brilliantly before taking a touch and finding the bottom-left corner with a clinical finish.
Witek was forced into making an exceptional save on 75 minutes stopping a long-distance Clapton shot which took a horrible bounce before the keeper flicked the ball over the bar.
Despite all of Brentford’s dominance the home side managed to grab an equaliser completely against the run of play after an amazing volley by Emily Link.
Logie came close to putting Brentford back in the lead only for the Clapton keeper to make a brilliant save stopping the forward’s shot from close range.
The Bees remain in third place with four games in hand over Sport London E Benfica following the draw.
