Brentford Women B secure promotion into the Greater London Premier Division after a 2-0 win over Hackney Reserves on Sunday at Wadham Lodge Sports Ground.
The B team put in a strong display to claim their league triumph with an early goal from Rebekah Edwards easing the pressure on the Bees. Brentford carried their dominance into the second half with Abi Claringbold sealing the three points with a goal on 70 minutes.
Brentford made the perfect start to the game and took an early lead following an excellent move just five minutes in.
Clifford showed great vision to play K-Lah Briscoe in behind the Hackney defence before the full-back played a cut back pass to Edwards who slotted home in neat fashion.
The Bees controlled the opening half as Hackney struggled to get through a strong Brentford back line which saw Amber Langston and Larique McPherson-Maraj form a strong centre-back partnership.
Shiana Foley was picking up some good position for the visitors and causing the Hackney defence problems with her movement off the ball.
On the brink of half-time Aleksandra Dzikowska thought she had doubled Brentford’s lead when she got onto the end of a ball at the back post but her shot struck the woodwork before going wide.
Brentford carried their dominance into the second half and came close to making it 2-0 just after the break but Foley’s shot from close range was well saved by the Hackney keeper.
With 15 minutes to play the B team were looking for the goal that would seal the win and promotion for the side.
It was Claringbold who got that goal for Brentford with the forward continuing her fine run of form this season slotting home from close range.
The side held out their lead to win the Greater London Division One North title with one game to play.
