Brentford Women B returned to Greater London Division One North action with a bang on Sunday, beating Actonians Thirds 7-0.
Led by doubles from Holly Hawkes and Eshe Davies as well as singles from Abi Claringbold, Lillie Elsbury and Amber Langston, the Bees continued their unbeaten run this season.
Head coach Tommy Ryan-Maynard made three changes to the starting line-up following last weekend’s win, with Freya Morgan, Larique McPherson-Maraj and Nicole Spittle added to the starting XI.
Ryan-Maynard’s side started proceedings as they have done all season, dominating possession in Actonians’ half. The best chance in the opening five minutes came when Elsbury hit the bar on seven minutes after deflecting off the visiting keeper’s hands.
Langston opened the scoring on 15 minutes, the defender heading home her first goal for the season from an Elsbury corner after returning from an ACL injury in recent weeks.
The Bees carried this momentum into the rest of the half, however some strong defending by the visitors meant chances were hard to come by.
Samantha Jones nearly doubled the home side’s lead on 30 minutes, her header from Elsbury’s corner rocketing off the bar and cleared away.
As the break approached Claringbold went one better, pulling her shot from the right side hard across her body into the bottom-corner to help the Bees take a 2-0 lead into half-time.
Elsbury enjoyed her time in front of goal after picking up two assists in the first half, firing a left foot shot above Actonians’ keeper’s outstretched hands to make it 3-0 as the hour mark ticked over.
And wasn’t long before Brentford were on the attack again. Some slick passing from the back eventually found Morgan, whose through ball led Davies to a one-on-one with the keeper and she slid home to make it 4-0.
With the momentum going the Bees’ way, Hawkes got her chance after coming on as a substitute, the forward sending a powerful shot into the back of the net to make it 5-0 after meeting the ball on the bounce inside the box.
Hawkes was back on the attack a minute later, her left-foot shot from outside the box beating the Actonians keeper to make it 6-0 with less than 10 minutes to play.
As the final whistle drew closer Davies added her second and Brentford’s final goal, finishing off Shania Foley’s through ball with a quick strike.
Ryan-Maynard was pleased with his side’s effort, especially in the second half, and praised his group for their work in defence: “It was a really, really good second half… I'm really impressed with how we defended, Nicole in goal dealt with everything that she needed to."
