Brentford Women B extended their lead at the top of the Greater London Division One South table on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Kenningwell United.

Leah Robertson gave the Bees an early lead at Bedfont Sports Club, before late goals by Marta Boabonay and Justine Buckmire-Monro ensured the west Londoners claimed all three points.

It was a case of déjà vu for Brentford, having defeated Kenningwell 7-0 last time out in the Capital Cup.

This time facing off in the league, the start couldn’t have been better for the west Londoners as Robertson gave the side the lead inside 10 minutes.

The Bees built strongly from the back, playing through their opposition. A slick pass to Freya Morgan was flicked on quickly by the midfielder, Robertson beating her defender to the ball before finishing superbly past the goalkeeper.

Despite an early buffer and confident play, Tommy Ryan-Maynard’s side couldn’t follow on from their dominant display last time out, going into half-time 1-0 up.

The second half followed the first 45 minutes as the Bees struggled to find the back of the net, Ryan-Maynard looking to substitutes Rebekah Edwards, Georgia Wood and Elsa Lesnard to provide some fresh legs as the half wore on.

The breakthrough came inside the final 10 minutes of the game through league-leading goalscorer Boabonay.

Kirsty Matthews sent in a piercing corner that was met by Wood, who flicked the ball toward the goal, Boabonay reacting quickest and putting the ball in the back of the net to double the Bees’ lead.

It was three two minutes later, this time through Buckmire-Monro. Matthews’ corner sailed into a dangerous area, Buckmire-Monro meeting it strongly and heading it home to secure all three points for the hosts.

With second-placed Hammersmith Reserves and third-placed Regents Park Rangers drawing 0-0 on Sunday, Brentford’s lead at the top of the table is now four points with two games in hand on Hammersmith.

The Bees now turn their attention to the JGMT Cup, where a third-round clash with London Academicals away from home awaits.
