Brentford Women B progressed to the Capital Cup semi-final with a 2-0 win over Richmond Park Under-18s on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Paula Holguin and Kirsty Matthews secured the victory in a closely contested quarter-final tie played in difficult conditions.

A game dictated by the weather saw Brentford play with the wind and rain in their favour in the first half, before facing it after the break.

The Bees created a number of chances early on through Karina Hlek, Georgia Wood and Freya Morgan but they were all unable to truly test the Richmond Park goalkeeper, with many efforts being saved comfortably.

Despite the control in the opening stages and throughout much of the first half, Richmond Park remained resilient and organised.

The breakthrough came just before half-time though for the home side, as a crossfield ball bounced over the defence into the path of Holguin, who took a touch outside the box before calmly lobbing the goalkeeper to give Brentford the lead heading into the break.

The away side came out with renewed intent in the second half, taking the game to the home side.

However, Brentford doubled their advantage shortly after. A well-worked team move involving Hlek, Kasha Petit and Morgan down the right-hand side led to a driven cross from Hlek to the back post, where Matthews was in the right place to tap in from close range.

With a two-goal cushion, the Bees managed the game effectively to secure the victory and book their place in the last four of the competition.

Brentford now turn their attention to the league, where they have the opportunity to secure the title this weekend at Bedfont Sports Club against Holmesdale Keets.
