Brentford Women were narrowly beaten 3-2 by National League side Maidenhead United Women on Wednesday evening in a hard-fought game.

The Bees put on a strong display against tier four opposition with strikes from Chloe Logie and Sophie Troth pushing a tough Maidenhead United side right until the final whistle.

Karleigh Osborne made six changes to the line-up that beat Ascot United 5-0 on Sunday afternoon with Troth, Aya Mirjan, Maddie Heavingham-Ford, Freya Worsley, Ella Cottrell and a trialist named in the Brentford starting 11 this time.

The home side made a positive start to the game with Troth setting the tempo for the home side as the midfielder displayed her range of passing in the opening stages.

Nikki Woods who has scored in both previous pre-season fixtures nearly got the Bees ahead on 12 minutes when the forward latched onto a loose back past and managed to take the ball around the Maidenhead keeper, but the angle proved too tight as the number 12 could only find the side netting with her shot.

Despite a good start from Brentford, it was the visitors who got themselves in front on 15 minutes following a neat finish from outside the box from Izzy Davis.

Maidenhead could have doubled their lead a few minutes later only for Freya Walker to make a stunning save after the away team’s forward found herself one-on-one with the Brentford keeper.

Despite having some good spells of possession, the hosts struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities in front of goal with Logie lacking service for the majority of the first half.

Just before the break, Maidenhead doubled their lead when Niamh Duggan found the bottom corner with a long-range strike.

Brentford came out of the break hungry to get themselves back in the game and they did exactly that just three minutes after the interval.

Logie made it five goals in just two games as the striker smashed home an excellent volley from inside the Maidenhead box.

Any hope of a quick Brentford comeback was short-lived though as Maidenhead extended their again moments later when Izzy Stockton slotted the ball past Walker.

The Brentford number nine thought she had scored for the second time just after the hour mark, but last season’s top scorer was denied by the linesman’s flag.

Brentford continued to push forward as they searched for a route back into the game, Worsley and Woods linked up well in the middle of the pitch before the latter unleashed a powerful strike towards goal that forced a great save from the Maidenhead keeper.

The Maidenhead number one made another brilliant save for her side moments later when Woods played through a Brentford trialist with the attacker seeing her one-on-one effort stopped by the keeper.

Brentford eventually got their second of the game on 89 minutes when Troth placed the ball into an empty net following a Chloe Logie shot which was saved into the path of the midfielder.

The goal proved to come too late though and despite some late Brentford pressure, Maidenhead displayed some impressive game management as they managed to see out their lead at Bedfont Sports Club as the Bees saw defeat in what was a good showing from Osborne’s side.
