Brentford scored three late goals to beat Exeter City 3-0 in the EFL Merit League 2 at Wheatsheaf Park on Friday afternoon.

Strikes from substitutes Adam Poliakov, Brandon Annous and Emeka Peters earnt the young Bees all three points following a good display.

Lydia Bedford made five changes to the side who were beaten by Northampton Town last weekend with Gregory Asemokhai, Yaw Agyei, Kaya Halil, Omaru King and Josh Djoro all introduced to the starting line-up.

It was a good start from the young Brentford side who were controlling possession well in the opening stages of the match.

The hosts saw their first chance of the half come on 16 minutes when striker, Michael McSorley was played in behind the Exeter back line, but the forwards shot was saved well by Daniel Layer.

Josh Djoro came close next for Brentford when the forward received the ball following an excellent move only for his shot to be blocked brilliantly by an Exeter defender.

Exeter enjoyed brief spells of possession in the first half, but the visitors were unable to create any real goal scoring opportunities.

The away side’s only chance of the half came five minutes before the break when a tame shot from George Birch was comfortably saved by Reggie Rose.

Exeter came out in the second half with a more aggressive approach as the side aimed to press the Brentford back line into making mistakes.

It was the visitors who had a good chance early on in the second half when Liam Cartwright’s volley forced a good save out of Rose.

The second half proved to be a tight affair as both sides pushed to find an opening on goal which would give them the chance to win the game.

Ollie Shield showed great skill on 75 minutes to beat his man on the right flank before cutting inside and unleashing a strike which went just over.

The young Bees began to ramp on the pressure and full-time approached, Adam Poliakov almost made an instant impact from the bench when his deflected shot from just outside the box nearly looped into the net only for Layer to make a great save.

Poliakov wasn’t to be denied again though as the midfielder snatched a late goal for Brentford three minutes from time.

The midfielder latched onto a header from Kerron Samuels flicking the ball into the back of the net.

The young Bees grew in confidence and made it 2-0 moments later when Annous found the top corner with an excellent curling effort from the left side of the box.

Three goals in the space of five minutes sealed with win for the young Brentford side, this time it was another substitute in peters who struck from inside the box, claiming another three points for Brentford in the Merit League 2.
