Queen of the South produced a smash-and-grab raid to secure the three points against Brentford's Under-15s at the Riada Stadium on the second day of the 2014 Milk Cup.

The Bees dominated the game from the outset but found themselves 3-1 behind at half-time.

The second-half was one-way traffic with Taylor Hall's goal leading a charmed life but a mixture of poor finishing, committed defending and some fine saves from Hall meant the Dumfries side held on for the win.

Brentford signalled their intentions from the off as Juan Pablo Gonzales Velasco's shot nearly caught Hall out straight from the kick-off.

Giovanni McGregor shot over and Velasco forced a good save out of Hall but the Scots took the lead with their first foray into Brentford territory as Aaran Crosbie beat Ellery Balcombe to a long ball forward and lofted home from 15 yards.

Much like the Under-17s yesterday The Bees hit straight back and equalised two minutes later when Kingsley Eshun showed great desire to beat Hall to the ball and tap home from close range.

However The Bees were not level for long as McGregor did well to head clear off the line but Joel Pearson reacted quickest to plant the ball back across Balcombe and into the top corner from six yards.

That goal only seemed to turn the tide of the game more in The Bees favour as Nikola Tavares headed wide at the back post, Malachi Simpson saw a goalbound effort blocked by Jake Thompson and Joshua Bohui shot inches wide after making space for himself.

Luke Dunn called Hall into action again before the game turned in the space of 60 seconds.

At one end Zachary Birse cannoned a header off the bar from close range for The Bees and when the rebound somehow failed to be turned home South attacked and won a free-kick wide on the left.

Owen Bell took it and it floated over everyone nestling in the top corner: the goal meaning that South had scored with all three attacks they mustered in the first-half.

Velasco tested Hall from distance and the final action of the first-half saw Hall make another save to deny McGregor.

If The Bees had dominated the first-half the second-half resembled an attack vs defence training session as Brentford poured forward looking to get back into the game.

Bohui shot wide from eight yards, Hall once again denied Velasco before the South's keeper pulled off an fantastic save to turn McGregor's free-kick behind.

As the half went on the Scots dropped deeper and deeper, rarely getting much higher than their 18 yard box.

The direct running of Bohui and Velasco was causing all sorts of issues for South but shear weight of numbers meant they were able to scramble the ball away.

When Brentford did get through they couldn't find a way past the inspired Hall who make a great block save to deny Benkerson Stride before denying McGregor from distance.

Stride whipped a shot just wide of the far post and Hall brilliantly denied Bohui before the resulting corner saw Tavares' header blocked on the line with Ross McMahon inches away from poking home the rebound.

South were defending heroically and it was fitting that the last action of the game saw Hall make another fine save to deny Julius Fenn-Evans from close range.

The referee's whistle prompted wild celebrations from the Scottish side which, given the nature of their defensive action, were more than justified.

For The Bees it means a wait to see whether they can still make the top four of this season's Dale Farm Milk Cup.
