Last season’s attendances at Griffin Park for Brentford’s first spell in the second tier of English football for 22 years have seen average crowd figures reach levels not seen since the early 1970s.
The average attendance of 10,821 is the highest since the Club’s Fourth Division promotion campaign of 1971/72, an increase of almost 40 per cent on the previous season.
Brentford’s highest league attendance of the season was 12,255 for the 2-1 win over Fulham on 21 November, with the lowest 8,765 for the midweek 4-0 victory over Blackpool on 24 February this year – the highest ‘low’ crowd since the 1958/59 season.
Also, the club recorded five figure league attendances on 14 consecutive occasions for the first time a single season since 1953/54.
