The Brentford duo of Dean Smith and Scott Hogan fell just short as Chris Hughton and Anthony Knockaert picked up the Sky Bet Championship Manager and Player of the Month awards for April. Smith was nominated after leading The Bees rapid climb up the Championship table after picking up 19 points from a possible 24 last month. That run of results included comfortable victories over Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Bolton Wanderers, Ipswich Town, and Milton Keynes Dons as Brentford found the net 19 times in April.
After 18 months out with injury Scott Hogan returned with a bang last month, netting five goals in just 93 minutes of playing time. After scoring the injury time equaliser against Bristol City, Scott went on to score both goals in the 2-1 win over Cardiff City before adding another brace in last Saturday's 3-0 win over Fulham.
However those achievements weren't enough to see Dean or Scott land the top prize for April as instead it was the promotion chasers' Brighton and Hove Albion who scooped both awards. Manager Chris Hughton won the managerial award after leading Albion to five wins in six games throughout the month, which leaves the Seagulls only one win away from claiming automatic promotion. Midfielder Knockaert made it an award double for the club after a string of impressive performances since his arrival from Standard Liege in January. He also found the net in the 5-0 and 4-0 wins over Fulham and Queens Park Rangers respectively.
