A young Brentford Development Squad team recorded a 3-0 win over Belgian side Royal Boussu Dour Borinage.
The Bees only used members of the Youth Team and Under-16 teams with most of the 21 players involved 16 or younger.
The line-up, which included many of Brentford’s Milk Cup winning team, took a first half lead and scored twice after the break to seal the win.
The Bees were, in truth, just too good for their opponents and neither Brentford goalkeeper had to work especially hard to keep their sheet clean.
Left back Ryan Makhosini scored a fine free kick in the first half before defender Gradi Milenge doubled the lead when a corner wasn’t properly cleared.
Myles Hippolyte completed the win with a third goal late on.
The Belgian side started well – Audrius Laucys made an important early block and trialist goalkeeper Louis Bragg made a smart save – but Brentford soon took control and always looked the likely winners.
Josh Stockwell missed the target from range for the hosts before Makhosini burst through to win a free kick – the ball was worked to him from the dead ball and he lashed in from 20 yards.
Fabian Rowe almost doubled the lead when he skipped past four men and in to the box, he rounded the goalkeeper but the angle was tight and Stockwell couldn’t head in the chipped cross.
The Belgian goalkeeper denied Seika Jatta and forced Stockwell to lift an effort over as Brentford dominated.
The visitors headed a corner over, Bragg saved a low free kick and Rowe made a block from a fierce shot but most of the action was at the other end.
Rowe and Stockwell forced the overworked goalkeeper in to a double save after good work from Herson Rodrigues Alves, who then shot over.
The closest Boussu Dour came to a first half goal was when Makhosini turned a cross just past his own post and the game wasn’t much different after the break.
Brentford made ten changes at half time and continued to dominate.
Montell Moore brought a fine save from the increasingly impressive goalkeeper before Hippolyte toe poked wide and then missed the target on the turn after challenging the stopper.
Hippolyte and Moore were linking well and the latter shot over after exchanging passes with the former.
The Belgian goalkeeper kept out a low Joe Maloney shot but when the resulting corner wasn’t cleared, Milenge lashed in.
Hippolyte and Stefan Tomasevic came close to adding a third as did Courtney Senior, who forced the goalkeeper in to another low save.
Joe Taylor in the Brentford goal had almost been a spectator in the first 25 minutes of the second period – one low shot across the face of the goal the extent of Boussu Dour’s attacking – but he made a fine double save, firstly going full stretch to keep out a fierce shot and then getting down well to keep out the re-bound.
The Belgians were finally killed off when Hippolyte picked up a Rodrigues Alves pass, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted in.
The visiting goalkeeper was called in to action to keep out Hippolyte and Rodrigues Alves and prevent Brentford running riot.
But there was no doubt The Bees were worthy winners when the game was brought to a close soon after.
