Brentford’s Development Squad conceded a stoppage time equaliser as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Ipswich Town.

It looked as if The Bees had won it when substitute Luke Norris put them ahead with 20 minutes remaining and they were comfortable in the later stages.

It was the second time Brentford had taken the lead – an early own goal from Dave October put them in front – but Byron Lawrence, who set up Ipswich’s first equaliser, struck from 30 yards to earn his team a point.

The visitors started well and had some early possession, with Jack Ainsley having a shot blocked when Brentford failed to deal with a corner, but they were second best in the first 45.

That they went in level was due to some fine goalkeeping from Arran Lee-Barrett, last ditch defending and a catastrophic defensive error from the hosts.

Brentford looked set to go in ahead at half time when they scored just before the half hour mark – Leon Redwood’s curling free kick cannoned off October and bounced past Lee-Barrett and in to the corner of the net.

Ipswich levelled seconds before half time when Antonio German lost possession and neither he nor Kevin O’Connor could stop Lawrence getting in to the box and cutting the ball back for Ainsley to slot home.

The visitors had offered almost nothing in the first 40 minutes as Brentford took control.

Stuart Dallas shot wide and then had an effort blocked before German shot over.

German drilled an effort wide after good work by Jimmy Spencer and Jake Reeves before Redwood volleyed in to the side netting and Emmanuel Oyeleke had a shot blocked.

German powered a header from a Redwood corner against the crossbar as Brentford continued to knock at the door and Oyeleke shot over soon after.

Brentford did eventually find a way through and then set about doubling their lead.

Lee-Barrett tipped a Redwood shot wide before a Dallas shot was blocked.

The Ipswich goalkeeper made a point blank save from a Sam Griffiths header and when the ball was played back, Aaron Pierre shot wide.

Ipswich started to threaten as half time approached – Lawrence curled a shot against a post and Ainsley headed over but Lee-Barrett had to make a decent low save from German to keep his team in it.

The visitors levelled seconds before the break and that changed the flow of the game.

Ipswich had the better of the early stages of the second half – Antoine Gounet saved a Bilal Mohsni header before the goalkeeper saved an Ainsley back heel after Pierre gave the ball away.

Amir Berkane shot over for the visitors but Brentford started to reassert themselves as the game ticked past the hour mark.

Lee-Barrett saved at the feet of Redwood and Luke Norris had a shot blocked and then shot wide after Oyeleke had burst from deep.

Ipswich had chances of their own – Ainsley fired in to the side netting when well-placed and Gounet held on to a looping Mohsni header.

Mohsni was busier at the other end, making a fine block to prevent German putting Brentford in front again when he latched on to a Reeves flick.

Brentford edged ahead again with 20 minutes remaining – a Scott Barron cross reached Dallas at the far post and he lifted it back perfectly for Norris to head home.

Gounet saved a Lawrence shot after a nice turn but Dallas could have made it safe when he toe-poked over from ten yards before Reeves had a shot blocked.

Ipswich snatched a point with the last kick when Lawrence received a throw in and fired a low shot in to the corner of the net from 30 yards.
