Brentford B goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom has joined National League South side Welling United on loan until January 2024.

The 22-year-old will link up with Danny Bloor’s side having featured for them recently in their pre-season matches as they prepare for their campaign opener away from home against Truro City on Saturday 5 August.

Winterbottom initially joined the B team from Liverpool in January 2021 and has registered 43 appearances for the young Bees. He has also been a regular trainer with Thomas Frank’s first team and joined the side for their mid-season training camp in Spain last season.

The goalkeeper will join a Welling side who finished their 2022/23 campaign in 16th as they claimed 58 points from their 46 matches. Recent weeks have seen them play pre-season matches against the likes of Dulwich Hamlet and Woking, whilst last time out they beat Beckenham Town 3-2 away from home.

On the opportunity for Ben to step out on loan, Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane said: “I think this is a really good opportunity for Ben. He will be able to stay within our environment for training whilst getting good game time with Welling.

“He is a really good professional who does things properly every single day and I think he will really enjoy this loan spell. We look forward to watching his development in the coming months.”
