Brentford B’s London Senior Cup campaign has come to an end following a 2-0 defeat to Wingate & Finchley on Tuesday night.

Despite dominating possession at the Maurice Rebak Stadium and forging multiple dangerous attacking moves throughout the contest, a goal eluded the young Bees as an experienced Blues side made the most of their opportunities.

On a still night in north London, Brentford B gained control of the contest in the first 20 minutes of play.

The side's strong press on Wingate & Finchley’s defenders put the Blues under pressure and created multiple turnover opportunities high up the pitch.

Charlie Farr found himself in a goal scoring position in the first 10 minutes but put his shot over the crossbar.

Isaac Holland’s shot less than 10 minutes later faced the same fate, as he launched a long-range strike from outside the box that sailed high.

Wingate & Finchley wrestled back the ascendency midway through the first 45 minutes, winning themselves multiple corners as the young Bees struggled to connect with possession.

A dangerous cross from Val Adedokun on 39 minutes turned the tide, however, Benjamin Fredrick’s header almost finding the back of the net.

Brentford B were slow out of the gates to start the second half, however quickly wrestled back control thanks to their swarming pressure on the Blues defenders.

The two sides traded near misses across the next five minutes, Mathew Achuba hitting the post for Wingate & Finchley after pouncing on some misplaced passing from Brentford B’s defenders.

Ethan Laidlaw followed with a near miss of his own for the young Bees, before Elliot Long’s counter-attack for the Blues led to the first goal of the game.

Isaac Newton had the chance to put the game away for Wingate & Finchley when he found himself one-on-one with Vincent Angelini, however put his shot wide left.

Holland continued to put Brentford B in dangerous attacking positions as the winger streaked past his opponent on multiple occasions, but the young Bees struggled to put the finishing touches on their good work.

Angel Waruih’s potential equaliser on 85 minutes was denied by Blues keeper Fergal Hale-Brown, before Luke Ifil found the back of the net on 91 minutes to put the game to bed for the home side.

The young Bees continued to fight into added time as Tony Yogane put a header just over the crossbar, however a goal continued to allude the visitors in front of a crowd of 103.
