Ryan Trevitt believes there are positives to take from the B team’s 2-0 defeat to Ukraine following the friendly at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The young midfielder played the full 90 against Ukraine on Thursday night which saw the young Bees full to a 2-0 defeat against high-quality opposition.

Speaking after the game, Trevitt said: “It was a tough test but there were spells where we did well and managed to keep the ball but I think overall they probably had the better game.

“We didn’t give away too many chances; if you look at the goals it was one corner and one where we tried to overplay, but overall, I think we did well and our work rate was good so we will look back on the game and see what we can improve on.”

The Ukrainian side glittered with talent as Premier League stars Mykhailo Mudryk and Vitalii Mykolenko both featured in the opening 45. Neil MacFarlane’s B team were also given a boost with first team players Pontus Jansson and Josh Dasilva both starting for the young Bees.

Trevitt felt the experience to play against and with such talented players will only help him and his teammates as they continue to develop as part of the B team.

Talking on the talent on display, Trevitt explained: “You can see how tidy they are and what their strengths are, especially with Mudryk, how sharp he is and you can learn a lot from them.

“Pontus and Josh both brought composure and leadership into the team which is good to have from senior players, so I think they really benefited the team today.”

The youngster joined the B team back in 2021 after signing from non-league outfit Leatherhead. Since then, the 20-year-old has become a key figure in Neil MacFarlane’s side as the midfielder goes on to explain his ambition.

“Maybe I could reflect on myself more but I’m always trying to look forward and I want to achieve which is just because I’m quite ambitious,” said Trevitt.

A powerful header from Oleksandr Svatok gave the Ukrainian national team the lead in the opening half before Heorhii Sudakov’s powerful finish in the second half ensured the 2-0 victory for the side who face England at Wembley on Sunday.

Brentford B showed signs of quality as their high press impressed throughout as they put up a good fight against Ukraine.

Trevitt continued: “There were spells where we played really good football but maybe our final ball wasn’t quite there but there are definitely things we can look at, especially our shape, and be proud.”
