Brentford B midfielder Riley Owen reveals all in the first instalment of Brentford Buzz.

Owen, who signed for the young Bees in the summer, has been an integral part of Neil MacFarlane’s side since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur with the youngster forming a strong partnership with Ethan Brierley in midfield.

Owen gives insight into Brentford B’s season so far, his footballing idols and his closest friends in the squad.

How has your first season at Brentford been?

Yeah, I love it, I think the boys and the staff are great, the whole environment and the setting is good.

Obviously some of the results this season are not as good as what we want but as a full collective it’s been a good season.

What position do you play?

I’m a central midfielder, I like to get on the ball and make things happen.

Who are you close with in the squad?

Ash, Angel, Kyreece, Val, Benji [Fredrick], all of them! I could list them all.

Would you rather assist or score?

I would love to score but I’m more likely to assist.

What are your greatest strengths?

Handling the ball, taking it under pressure and having a man on my back and being able to twist and turn.

What do you do in your free time?

I’m usually just out with my friends or seeing my family, just making the most of my time with them when I can because obviously a lot of my life revolves around football.

Which Brentford player is your favourite?

Mathias Jensen is a great player; I still need to get his shirt!

Who is your footballing idol?

I used to watch a lot of Philippe Coutinho when he was at Liverpool - he was an amazing footballer.

What do you want to improve on?

Definitely scoring goals. I want to add that to my game and also my timing when I make a run into the box; that will help contribute to more goals.

Who has impressed you the most in the Brentford B squad?

Benji Fredrick and Ashley Hay. With Benji when he joined I didn’t know that much about him but he’s just kicked on since he’s arrived and Ash has had some great moments and I like him a lot.
